The 2013 season is behind us and I'm checking how picks 21 to 33 of the 2011 draft did this season. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.
The Toronto Blue Jays drafted RHP Tyler Beede 21st out of Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA. He did not sign and enrolled at Vanderbilt.
The St Louis Cardinals drafted second baseman Kolten Wong 22nd out of Hawaii. He split 2013 between Triple A Memphis and the Cardinals. He hit .303/.369/.466 with 10 HR, 45 RBI, 68 R, 20 SB in 107 games at Memphis and hit .153/.194/.169 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 6 R, 3 SB in 32 games with the Cardinals.
The Washington Nationals drafted RHP Alex Meyer 23rd out of Kentucky. He was traded to the Twins in 2012. He split 2013 between Rookie Gulf Coast and Double A New Britain. He was 0-0, 1.08 ERA, 16 K, 1.20 WHIP in 8.1 IP over 3 games at Gulf Coast and was 4-3, 3.21 ERA, 84 K, 1.27 WHIP in 70.0 IP over 13 games at New Britain.
The Tampa Bay Rays drafted RHP Taylor Guerrieri 24th out Spring Valley High School in Columbia, SC. He pitched in 2013 at Class A Bowling Green. He was 6-2, 2.01 ERA, 51 K, 0.99 WHIP in 67.0 IP over 14 games.
The San Diego Padres drafted RHP Joseph Ross 25th out of Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, CA. He pitched in 2013 at Class A Fort Wayne. He was 5-8, 3.75 ERA, 79 K, 1.34 WHIP in 122.1 IP over 23 games.
The Boston Red Sox drafted catcher Blake Swihart 26th out of V Sue Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, NM. He played 2013 at Class A Advanced Salem. He hit .298/.366/.428 with 2 HR, 42 RBI, 45 R, 7 SB in 103 games.
The Cincinnati Reds drafted RHP Robert Stephenson 27th out of Alhambra High School in Martinez, CA. He split 2013 between Class A Dayton, Class A Advanced Bakersfield and Double A Pensacola. He was 5-3, 2.57 ERA, 96 K, 0.99 WHIP in 77.0 IP over 14 games at Dayton, was 2-2, 3.05 ERA, 22 K, 1.02 WHIP in 20.2 IP over 4 games at Bakersfield and was 0-2, 4.86 ERA, 18 K, 1.80 WHIP in 16.2 IP over 4 games at Pensacola.
The Atlanta Braves drafted LHP Sean Gilmartin 28th out of Florida State. He split 2013 between Rookie Gulf Coast, Class A Rome and Triple A Gwinnett. He was 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 11 K, 0.11 WHIP in 9.0 IP over 3 games at Gulf Coast, was 1-0, 1.80 ERA, 5 K, 0.80 WHIP in 5.0 IP in 1 game at Rome and was 3-8, 5.74 ERA, 65 K, 1.59 WHIP in 91.0 IP over 17 games at Gwinnett.
The San Francisco Giants drafted shortstop Joe Panik 29th out of St Johns. He played 2013 at Double A Richmond. He hit .257/.333/.347 with 4 HR, 57 RBI, 64 R, 10 SB in 137 games.
The Minnesota Twins drafted shortstop Levi Michael 30th out of North Carolina. He played in 2013 at Class A Advanced Fort Meyers. He hit .229/.331/.340 with 4 HR, 28 RBI, 40 R, 21 SB in 94 games.
The Tampa Bay Rays drafted outfielder Mikie Mahtook 31st out of LSU. He played in 2013 at Double A Montgomery. He hit .254/.322/.386 with 7 HR, 68 RBI, 71 R, 25 SB in 132 games.
The Tampa Bay Rays drafted shortstop Jake Hager 32nd out of Sierra Vista High School in Las Vegas, NV. He split 2013 between Rookie Gulf Coast and Class A Advanced Charlotte. He hit .500/.500/.750 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 1 game at Gulf Coast and hit .258/.318/.305 with 0 HR, 33 RBI, 56 R, 12 SB in 1123 games at Charlotte.
The Texas Rangers drafted LHP Kevin Matthews 33rd out of Richmond Hill High School in Richmond Hill, GA. He missed the 2013 season with an Achilles tendon injury.
