Dexter Fowler was traded by the Colorado Rockies to the Houston Astros on December 3, 2013 along with a player to be named later. In exchange the Rockies received Brandon Barnes and Jordan Lyles.
Fowler is an outfielder with six seasons MLB experience playing all with the Rockies. He split 2013 between Triple A Colorado Springs while rehabbing and with the Rockies. He hit .000/.333/.000 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 1 SB in 2 games with Colorado Springs and hit .263/.369/.407 with 12 HR, 42 RBI, 71 R, 19 SB in 119 games with the Rockies. He missed several games due to a knee injury. For his MLB career he has hit .270/.365/.423 with 40 HR, 210 RBI, 376 R, 83 SB in 667 games. He was originally drafted by the Rockies in the 14th round in 2004. Fowler turned 27 on March 22.
Barnes is an outfielder with two seasons MLB experience playing with the Astros. In 2013 he hit .240/.289/.346 with 8 HR, 41 RBI, 46 R, 11 SB in 136 games. For his MLB career he has hit .233/.282/.330 with 9 HR, 48 RBI, 54 R, 12 SB in 179 games. He was originally drafted by the Astros in the sixth round in 2005. Barnes turned 27 on May 15.
RHP Lyles has three seasons MLB experience pitching with the Astros. He split 2013 between Triple A Oklahoma City and the Astros. He was 2-2, 5.32 ERA, 11 K, 1.52 WHIP in 23.2 IP over 6 games at Oklahoma City and was 7-9, 5.59 ERA, 93 K, 1.51 WHIP, 1 SV in 141.2 IP over 27 games with the Astros. For his MLB career he is 14-29, 5.35 ERA, 259 K, 1.45 WHIP, 1 SV in 377.0 IP over 72 games. He was originally drafted by the Astros with the 38th pick of the first round in 2008. Lyles turned 23 on October 19.
