Here is my tenth installment of College Spotlight for 2015. This week I am looking at Casey Rodrigue of Indiana and David Berg of UCLA.
Rodrigue is a senior second baseman from Brother Martin High School in Destrehan, LA. He had a stop at LSU-Eunice before making his way to Indiana. Last weekend he helped Indiana become the first team to sweep a series with Maryland this season. From the lead off spot he hit 6 for 12 with 2 2B, 4 RBI, 5 R, 1 SB and 3 BB. This season he is hitting .287/.368/.441 with 4 HR, 28 RBI, 37 R, 11 SB in 45 games. Last season he hit .264/.320/.362 with 0 HR, 22 RBI, 48 R, 12 SB in 59 games at Indiana. The sweep came at the right time as the Hossiers are looking to finish strong and claim an at large birth in the playoffs as they are 26-19.
Berg is a senior RHP out of Bishop Amat High School in Covina, CA. He has been one of the nation's elite relief pitchers since his freshman season and may be having his best year. This season he is 5-1, 0.81 ERA, 49 K, 0.83 WHIP, .201 BAA, 10 SV in 44.1 IP over 31 games. Last season he was 3-2, 1.50 ERA, 35 K, 0.88 WHIP, .202 BAA, 11 SV in 48.0 IP over 31 games. The Bruins are staying near the top ten and are in a good position to make a run for Omaha with their 33-11 record.
