Derek Jeter retires
Derek Jeter announced his retirement from playing baseball in October 2014. The shortstop had 20 seasons MLB experience playing with the New York Yankees (1995-2014). For the 2014 season he hit .256/.304/.313 with 4 HR, 40 RBI, 47 R, 10 SB in 145 games. For his MLB career he hit .310/.377/.440 with 260 HR, 1311 RBI, 1923 R, 358 SB in 2747 games. He was American League Rookie of the Year in 1996, was second in AL MVP voting in 2006 and third in 1998 and 2009. Jeter was a World Series champion five times (1996, 1998-2000, 2009), 14 time All-Star (1998-2002, 2004, 2006-2012, 2014), awarded the Gold Glove five times (2004-2006, 2009-2010) and was a five time silver slugger (2006-2009, 2012). He was originally drafted by the Yankees with the sixth pick of the first round in 1992. Jeter was 40 at the time he retired.
