Here is my 13th and final installment of College Spotlight for 2015. This week I am looking at Will Albertson of Catawba College and Phil Bickford of College of Southern Nevada.
Albertson is a junior C\OF out of Randleman High School in Sophia, NC. His name is peppered all over the Division II stat leaders as he is first in batting average, hits and total bases, second in RBI, third in home runs, fifth in slugging percentage, sixth in runs and seventh in on base percentage. This season he is hitting .470/.530/.891 with 26 HR, 90 RBI, 73 R, 2 SB in 58 games. He also has 108 hits and 205 total bases. He played last season at Campbell where he hit .286/.364/.335 with 0 HR, 28 RBI, 27 R, 8 SB in 53 games. The Indians are 45-13 and won the first game in the Division II Championships.
Bickford is a sophomore RHP out of Oaks Christian High School in Newbury Park, CA. He had been drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2013 with the 10th pick of the first round but did not sign. This season he is 9-1, 1.45 ERA, 166 K, 0.76 WHIP, .147 BAA in 86.2 IP over 16 games. He pitched in 2014 at Cal State Fullerton where he was 6-3, 2.13 ERA, 74 K, 1.04 WHIP, .232 BAA in 76.0 IP over 20 games with 10 GS. The Coyotes are 46-18 with their season over after losing in the Western District tournament.
