Josh Willingham retires
Josh Willingham announced his retirement from playing baseball in November 2014. The shortstop had 11 seasons MLB experience playing with the Florida Marlins (2004-2008), Washington Nationals (2009-2010), Oakland Athletics (2011), Minnesota Twins (2012-2014) and Kansas City Royals (2014). For the 2014 season he hit .210/.345/.402 with 12 HR, 34 RBI, 34 R, 1 SB in 68 games with the Twins and .233/.349/.384 with 2 HR, 6 RBI, 14 R, 1 SB in 24 games with the Royals. For his MLB career he hit .253/.358/.465 with 195 HR, 632 RBI, 564 R, 35 SB in 1147 games. He won the Silver Slugger Award in 2012. He was originally drafted by the Marlins in the 17th round in 2000. Willingham was 35 at the time of his retirement.
