Eli Whiteside retires
Eli Whiteside announced his retirement from playing baseball in January 2015. The catcher had six seasons MLB experience playing with the Baltimore Orioles (2005), San Francisco Giants (2009-2012) and Chicago Cubs (2014). For 2014 he hit .214/.291/.364 with 6 HR, 21 RBI, 14 R, 0 SB in 63 games at Triple A Iowa and .120/.115/.160 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 0 R, 1 SB in 8 games with the Cubs. For his MLB career he hit .210/.265/.327 with 10 HR, 45 RBI, 52 R, 4 SB in 216 games. His career caught stealing rate was 30%. Whiteside was a World Series champion in 2010. He was originally drafted by the Orioles in the sixth round in 2001. Whiteside was 35 at the time of his retirement.
