Two Major One Minor 052615

Here is my seventh Two Major One Minor segment of 2015. This is my fifth year of doing this series where I feature two Major League players and one minor league player each week. This week I am featuring Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Braun and Trea Turner.

Rodriguez of the Yankees is bouncing back from his 162 game suspension and was actually one of the key sparks to the team's hot start this season. This season the third baseman is hitting .262/.363./.545 with 10 HR, 23 RBI, 24 R, 0 SB in 42 games. The three time AL MVP is still showing he has something in the tank for a player that turns 40 on July 27. That talent has been on display his whole career since he was the first over all selection in the 1993 draft by the Mariners.

Braun of the Brewers is more than a season removed from when he was suspended for 65 games in 2013. While his numbers may not approach the 2011 and 2012 numbers when he was NL MVP and runner-up respectively he is still being productive. This season he is hitting .272/.349/.543 with 12 HR, 36 RBI, 27 R, 5 SB in 44 games. Having just turned 31 on November 17 he should still have plenty of baseball left to roam the outfield. The Brewers selected him with the fifth pick of the first round in 2005.

Turner doesn't have a suspension to tarnish his legacy but does have the disctraction of being part of one of the worst kept secrets in baseball since last season. He is unofficially the PTBNL in a December trade that will be sending him to the Washington Nationals in June. Yet he is still in limbo playing at Double A San Antonio of the San Diego Padres until he can join his new team because a rule that has since been rewritten which stated that players could not be traded within the same season they were drafted. Yet he is honing his skills hitting .340/.420/.516 with 5 HR, 24 RBI, 23 R, 8 SB in 41 games at San Antonio. The Padres had drafted him with the 13th pick of the first round in 2014. Since he will only be 22 on June 30 he should have plenty of time to establish himself as the Nationals shortstop of the future.
