He passed Willie Mays to take fourth place on the all time home run list. For the game he was 2 for 3 with 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R while hitting third as the DH. The home run was a solo shot in the third inning off Chris Tillman with two outs. This season he is hitting .245/.351/.532 with 7 HR, 18 RBI, 16 R, 0 SB in 27 games. Over 21 MLB seasons with the Yankees, Rangers and Mariners he has hit .299/.383/.558 with 661 HR, 1987 RBI, 1935 R, 322 SB in 2595 games. He was originally drafted by the Mariners with the first over all pick in 1993. Rodriguez will be 40 on July 27.
Hall of Famer Willie Mays was an outfielder who played 22 MLB seasons with the New York Giants (1951-1952, 1954-1957), San Francisco Giants (1958-1972) and New York Mets (1972-1973). For his MLB career he hit .302/.384/.557 with 660 HR, 1903 RBI, 2062 R, 338 SB in 2992 games. He originally signed with the New York Giants in 1950 as an amateur free agent. Mays was 42 when he retired.
