Here is the seventh installment of Two Major One Minor for 2012. The players this week are Jordan Pacheco, Elliot Johnson and Bryce Brentz.
Jordan Pacheco of the Colorado Rockies is showing the ability to hit while being versatile with a variety of gloves. This season he has played mainly at third and first but has played the majority of the past four seasons at catcher in the minors. He started 2012 at Triple A Colorado Springs hitting .433/.479/.627 with 3 HR, 10 RBI, 10 R and 1 SB in 17 games and has hit .304/.316/.446 with 1 HR, 12 RBI, 11 R and 2 SB in 27 games with the Rockies. He has certainly shown the ability to hit at or above .300 and is capable of touching double digits in home runs and steals. In his last ten games he has had multiple hits in five of them. He was originally drafted by the Rockies in the ninth round in 2007. Pacheco turned 26 on January 30.
Elliot Johnson of the Tampa Bay Rays fits the Rays super utility mold by playing shortstop, second and outfield. He's on track for much more playing time than his rookie season last year and is currently hitting .255/.327/.373 with 3 HR, 9 RBI, 11 R and 9 SB in 40 games. Although he has been slumping his last seven games he does usually hit fairly well in the .260 to .280 range. He has shown speed in the minors reaching 43 steals twice and has some pop in his bat reaching double digit home runs three times. He originally signed with the Rays as an amatuer free agent in 2002. Johnson turned 28 on March 9th.
Bryce Brentz is an outfielder with the Boston Red Sox Double A team Portland Sea Dogs. He is starting to catch fire after a slow start and yesterday had his second 5 for 5 game this season. So far in 2012 he is hitting .306/.358/.484 with 6 HR, 18 RBI, 26 R and 1 SB in 49 games. In 2011 across the Class A and Class A Advanced levels he combined to hit .306/.365/.574 with 30 HR, 94 RBI, 91 R and 3 SB in 115 games. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox with the 36th pick of the first round in 2010. Brentz turned 23 on December 30.
