Here is the ninth installment of Two Major One Minor for 2012. The players this week are Trevor Plouffe, Elian Herrera and Jeff Kobernus.
Trevor Plouffe is in his first full season with the Minnesota Twins after splitting the previous two seasons with Triple A. In 2011 he hit .313/.384/.635 with 15 HR, 33 RBI, 33 R and 3 SB in 51 games at Triple A and hit .238/.305/.392 with 8 HR, 31 RBI, 47 R and 3 SB in 81 games with the Twins. This season he is hitting .238/.321/.571 with 14 HR, 24 RBI, 25 R and 0 SB in 45 games with the Twins. He is developing into a super utility player who has 24 games at third, 17 in the outfield and has tried a game or three at second, first and short stop. In 2011 he had 45 games at short stop and 17 at second with the Twins so he is no stranger to the middle of the infield. He was originally drafted by the Twins with the 20th pick of the first round in 2004. Plouffe turned 26 on June 15.
Elian Herrera of the Los Angeles Dodgers in another player that gives his team more options as he has played third, second and outfield this season for the Dodgers. He started the season in Triple A where he hit .358/.381/.550 with 2 HR, 14 RBI, 22 R and 9 SB in 28 games and has hit .305/.407/.390 with 0 HR, 14 RBI, 17 R and 4 SB in 31 games since his call up. He originally signed with the Dodgers as an amateur free agent in 2003 out of the Dominican Republic. Herrera turned 27 on February 1st.
Jeff Kobernus is a second baseman with the Washington Nationals Double A team Harrisburg Senators. This season he is hitting .281/.318/.342 with 1 HR, 10 RBI, 28 R and 26 SB in 48 games with Harrisburg. He showed a knack for steals in 2011 when he had 53 SB in 124 games at Class A Advanced. He was originally drafted by the Nationals in the second round in 2009. Kobernus will be 24 on June 30.
