Montero and Jones

Two more players landed contract extensions in the past month: Miguel Montero and Adam Jones.


Miguel Montero of the Arizona Diamondbacks signed a five year extension for $60 million. The catcher is in his seventh season with the Diamondbacks and this season is hitting .255/.357/.363 with 3 HR, 24 RBI, 21 R and 0 SB in 44 games. For his career he has hit .270/.340/.443 with 61 HR, 270 RBI, 237 R and 2 SB in 557 games. He originally signed with the Diamondbacks as an amateur free agent in 2001 out of Venezuela. Montero will be 29 on July 9th.


Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles signed a six year extension for $85.5 million. The outfielder is in his fifth season with the Orioles. He was originally drafted by the Mariners with the 37th pick of the first round in 2003. He split two season between Triple A and the Mariners before being traded to the Orioles in February 2008. This season he is hitting .315/.363/.602 with 16 HR, 34 RBI, 38 R and 9 SB in 54 games. For his career he has hit .279/.323/.451 with 91 HR, 325 RBI, 348 R and 53 SB in 678 games. Jones will be 27 on August 1st.
