Carlos Correa of the Puerto Rican Baseball Academy and High School was taken first over all by the Houston Astros in the 2012 MLB draft. Correa has the talent and character that impressed the Astros so much they could not pass on the chance to take him. The short stop is a five tool player that projects very well even if a move to third is in his future. For now the plan is for him to develop at short stop as long as possible.
I had read enough about Correa to take a chance on him with the last pick of my fantasy draft in March. It was the third year in a row I'd taken a player in our fantasy draft before they were taken in the MLB draft. The other two were Bryce Harper and Bubba Starling. We'll see next year if I quit with the high school picks while I'm ahead or roll the dice again. In addition to Correa I was tempted to take another high school player this year and both of the two I considered were also drafted in the first round. I'll reveal who they were after next year's draft in case I keep them on my draft board.
