Chasing 50-50 2016 Final

This is the fifth year of my Chasing 50-50 segment.. It started four seasons ago as we followed Matt Kemp then of the Dodgers in his self proclaimed attempt to hit 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases. The 2016 season finished and we'll check out those with the power\speed combo.. As long as he is playing Kemp will always be part of this. These are the final results of the season. Jose Altuve Sporting News MLB POY 2016

Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros was selected the Sporting News MLB Player of the Year for 2016. This season the second baseman hit .338/.396/.531 with 24 HR, 96 RBI, 108 R, 30 SB in 161 games. 

He finished with 84 votes from his fellow players. Mookie Betts of the Red Sox was second with 64 votes. The remaining of the top five were David Ortiz (Red Sox, 41), Kris Bryant (Cubs, 36) and Daniel Murphy (Nationals, 26).

He originally signed with the Astros in 2007 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Altuve turned 26 on May 6th.

Josh Staumont AFL PiOW 101716 to 102316

Josh Staumont of the Surprise Saguaros was selected the Arizona Fall League Pitcher of the Week for the span of October 17, 2016 through October 23, 2016. For the week he was 1-0, 1.23 ERA, 2 GS, 7.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 3 BB and 8 K. This fall the RHP is 2-1, 3.14 ERA, 17 K, 0.98 WHIP in 14.1 IP over 4 games. 

The Royals prospect had split the 2016 season between Class A Advanced Wilmington and Double A Northwest Arkansas. He was 2-10, 5.05 ERA, 94 K, 1.77 WHIP, .230 BAA in 73.0 IP over 18 games with 15 GS at Wilmington and 2-1, 3.04 ERA, 73 K, 1.57 WHIP, .232 BAA in 50.1 IP over 11 games at NW Arkansas. He was originally drafted by the Royals in the second round in 2015. Staumont will be 23 on December 21.

Gleyber Torres of the Scottsdale Scorpions was selected the Arizona Fall League Player of the Week for the span of October 17, 2016 through October 23, 2016. This fall the shortstop is hitting 10 for 32, .313/.421/.656 with 3 HR, 7 RBI, 6 R, 2 SB in 9 games. 

The Yankees prospect had split the 2016 season between Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach of the Cubs and Class A Advanced Tampa after he was traded to the Yankees. He hit .275/.359/.433 with 9 HR, 47 RBI, 62 R, 19 SB in 94 games at Myrtle Beach and .254/.341/.385 with 2 HR, 19 RBI, 19 R, 2 SB in 31 games at Tampa. He originally signed with the Cubs in 2013 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Torres will be 20 on December 13.

Corey Seager Sporting News NL Rookie of Year 2016

Corey Seager of the Los Angeles Dodgers was selected the Sporting News National League Rookie of the Year for 2016. This season the shortstop hit .308/.365/.512 with 26 HR, 72 RBI, 105 R, 3 SB in 157 games. 

He finished with 143 votes from his fellow players. Trea Turner of the Nationals was second with 15 votes. The remaining of the top five were Kenta Maeda (Dodgers, 6), Trevor Story (Rockies, 5) and Seung-hwan Oh (Cardinals, 3).

He was originally drafted by the Dodgers with the 18th pick of the first round in 2012. Seager turned 22 on April 27.

Michael Fulmer Sporting News AL Rookie of Year 2016

Michael Fulmer of the Detroit Tigers was selected the Sporting News American League Rookie of the Year for 2016. This season the RHP had split 2016 between Triple A Toledo and the Tigers. He was 1-1, 4.11 ERA, 20 K, 1.37 WHIP, .258 BAA in 15.1 IP over 3 games at Toledo and 11-7, 3.06 ERA, 132 K, 1.12 WHIP, .231 BAA in 159.0 IP over 26 games with the Tigers.

He finished with 61 votes from his fellow players. Tyler Naquin of the Indians was second with 35 votes. The remaining of the top five were Gary Sanchez (Yankees, 27), Nomar Mazura (Rangers, 13) and Tim Anderson (White Sox, 9). 

He was originally drafted by the Mets with the 44th pick of the first round in 2011 and traded to the Tigers in 2015. Fulmer turned 23 on March 15.

Brady Dragmire traded to Pirates

Brady Dragmire was traded by the Toronto Blue Jays to the Pittsbugh Pirates on October 5, 2016 for cash. The RHP was 4-6, 4.38 ERA, 41 K, 1.47 WHIP, .284 BAA, 1 SV in 72.0 IP over 45 games at Double A New Hampshire in 2016. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 17th round in 2011. Dragmire will be 24 on February 5th.

Tim Lopes traded to Blue Jays

Tim Lopes was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the Toronto Blue Jays on September 30, 2016 to complete an earlier deal. Gordon Beckham traded to Giants

Gordon Beckham was traded by the Atlanta Braves to the San Francisco Giants on September 27, 2016. The Braves in exchange received Richard Rodriguez.

Chris Bostick traded to Pirates

Chris Bostick was traded by the Washington Nationals to the Pittsburgh Pirates on September 26, 2016. The Nationals in exchange received Taylor Gushue and cash.

Bostick is a second baseman who split 2016 between Double A Harrisburg and Triple A Syracuse. He hit .290/.356/.462 with 6 HR, 33 RBI, 34 R, 8 SB in 71 games at Harrisburg and .203/.261/.297 with 2 HR, 18 RBI, 27 R, 3 SB in 64 games at Triple A Syracuse.
