Gordon Beckham traded to Giants

Gordon Beckham was traded by the Atlanta Braves to the San Francisco Giants on September 27, 2016. The Braves in exchange received Richard Rodriguez.

Beckham is a second baseman who split 2016 between Rookie Gulf Coast, Class A Advanced Carolina and Triple A Gwinnett while rehabbing and with the Braves. He hit 2 for 10, .200/.182/.300 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 3 games at Gulf Coast, 5 for 8, .625/.750/1.125 with 1 HR, 3 RBI, 3 R, 0 SB in 3 games at Carolina, 4 for 12, .333/.385/.500 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 2 R, 0 sB in 3 games at Gwinnett and .217/.300/.347 with 5 HR, 30 RBI, 25 R, 1 SB in 85 games with the Braves. Over eight MLB seasons with the Giants, Braves and White Sox he hit .240/.303/.370 with 74 HR, 335 RBI, 386 R, 30 SB in 953 games. He was originally drafted by the White Sox with the eighth pick of the first round in 2008. Beckham turned 30 on September 16.

Rodriguez is a SS\2B who split 2016 between Class A Advanced San Jose and Triple A Sacramento. He hit .174/.209/.183 with 0 HR, 3 RBI, 9 R, 2 SB in 36 games at San Jose and 1 for 1, 1.000,/1.000/1.000 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 1 game at Sacramento. He originally signed with the Giants in 2010 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Rodriguez turned 24 on October 3rd.
