Cole Hamels traded to Rangers in 8 player deal

Cole Hamels was traded by the Philadelphia Phillies to the Texas Rangers on July 31, 2015 along with Jake Diekman and cash. The Phillies in exchange received Matt Harrison, Jorge Alfaro, Jerad Eickhoff, Nick Williams, Alec Asher and Jake Thompson.

LHP was 6-7, 3.64 ERA, 137 K, 1.18 WHIP, .233 BAA in 128.2 IP over 20 games with the Phillies in 2015. Over 10 MLB seasons with the Phillies he is 114-90, 3.30 ERA, 1844 K, 1.15 WHIP, .238 BAA in 1930.0 IP over 295 games. He was originally drafted by the Phillies with the 17th pick of the first round in 2002. Hamels turned 31 on December 27.

LHP Diekman had split 2015 between Triple A Lehigh Valley and the Phillies. He was 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 7 K, 0.86 WHIP, .208 BAA, 3 SV in 7.0 IP over 6 games at Lehigh Valley and 2-1, 5.15 ERA, 49 K, 1.75 WHIP, .268 BAA in 36.2 IP over 41 games with the Phillies. Over four MLB seasons with the Phillies he was 9-11, 3.84 ERA, 225 K, 1.50 WHIP, .246 BAA in 173.1 IP over 191 games. He was originally drafted by the Phillies in the 30th round in 2007. Diekman turned 28 on January 21.

LHP Harrison had split 2015 between Double A Frisco and Triple A Round Rock while rehabbing and with the Rangers. He was 0-0, 7.50 ERA, 3 K, 2.00 WHIP, .346 BAA in 6.0 IP in 1 game at Frisco, 1-3, 5.97 ERA, 18 K, 1.60 WHIP, .309 BAA in 28.2 IP over 5 games at Round Rock and 1-2, 6.75 ERA, 5 K, 1.56 WHIP, .306 BAA in 16.0 IP over 3 games with the Rangers. Over eight MLB seasons with the Rangers he was 50-35, 4.21 ERA, 408 K, 1.40 WHIP, .273 BAA, 2 SV in 668.1 IP over 135 games with 103 GS. He was originally drafted by the Braves in the third round in 2003 and traded to the Rangers in 2007. Harrison will be 30 on September 16.

Alfaro is a C\1B who played at Frisco where he hit .253/.314/.432 with 5 HR, 21 RBI, 22 R, 2 SB in 49 games. His minor league caught stealing rate is 27%. He originally signed with the Rangers in 2010 as an amateur free agent out of Columbia. Alfaro turned 22 on June 11.

RHP Eickhoff had split 2015 between Frisco and Round Rock. He was 1-0, 2.70 ERA, 14 K, 1.00 WHIP, .194 BAA in 10.0 IP over 2 games at Frisco and 9-4, 4.25 ERA, 93 K, 1.26 WHIP, .249 BAA in 101.2 IP over 18 games at Round Rock. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the 15th round in 2011. Eickhoff turned 25 on July 2nd.

Williams is an outfielder who played at Frisco where he hit .299/.357/.479 with 13 HR, 34 RBI, 56 R, 10 SB in 97 games. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the second round in 2012. Williams will be 22 on September 8th.

RHP Asher had split 2015 between Frisco and Round Rock. He was 1-4, 3.98 ERA, 43 K, 1.33 WHIP, .241 BAA in 43.0 IP over 8 games at Frisco and 3-6, 4.73 ERA, 54 K, 1.39 WHIP, .277 BAA in 64.2 IP over 12 games at Round Rock. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the fourth round in 2012. Asher will be 24 on October 4th.

RHP Thompson pitched at Frisco where he was 6-6, 4.72 ERA, 78 K, 1.41 WHIP, .272 BAA in 87.2 IP over 17 games. He was originally drafted by the Tigers in the second round in 2012 and traded to the Rangers in 2014. Thompson turned 21 on Janaury 31.
