Joe Wieland traded to Mariners

Joe Wieland was traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Seattle Mariners on January 12, 2016. The Dodgers in exchange received Erick Mejia.

RHP Wieland split 2015 between Triple A Oklahoma City and the Dodgers. He was 10-5, 4.59 ERA, 92 K, 1.41 WHIP, .299 BAA in 113.2 IP over 22 games at Oklahoma City and 0-1, 8.31 ERA, 4 K, 1.73 WHIP, .294 BAA in 8.2 IP over 2 games with the Dodgers. Over three MLB seasons with the Dodgers and Padres he was 1-5, 5.85 ERA, 36 K, 1.49 WHIP, .277 BAA in 47.2 IP over 11 games. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the fourth round in 2008, traded to the Padres in 2011 and traded to the Dodgers in 2015. Wieland turned 26 on January 21.

Mejia is a shortstop who split 2015 between Rookie Arizona, Class A Everett, Class A Clinton and Triple A Tacoma. He hit .417/.462/.500 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 4 R, 2 SB in 5 games at Arizona, .282/.361/.336 with 0 HR, 11 RBI, 24 R, 18 SB in 36 games at Everett, .269/.269/.346 with 0 HR, 3 RBI, 5 R, 0 SB in 6 games at Clinton and was hitless in 5 at bats in 4 games at Tacoma. He originally signed with the Mariners in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Mejia turned 21 on November 9th.
