James Shields traded to White Sox

James Shields was traded by the San Diego Padres to the Chicago White Sox on June 4, 2016 along with cash. The Padres in exchange received Erik Johnson and Fernando Tatis Jr.

RHP Shields was 2-7, 4.28 ERA, 57 K, 1.43 WHIP, .272 BAA in 67.1 IP over 11 games with the Padres in 2016. Over 11 MLB seasons with the White Sox, Padres, Royals and Rays\Devil Rays he is 129-105, 3.78 ERA, 1901 K, 1.24 WHIP, .256 BAA in 2182.0 IP over 331 games. He was originally drafted by the Devil Rays in the 16th round in 2000. Shields turned 34 on December 20.

RHP Johnson had split 2016 between Triple A Charlotte and the White Sox. He was 2-1, 2.94 ERA, 35 K, 1.24 WHIP, .239 BAA in 49.0 IP over 8 games at Charlotte and 0-2, 6.94 ERA, 11 K, 1.71 WHIP, .304 BAA in 11.2 IP over 2 games with the White Sox. Over four MLB seasons with the White Sox he was 7-6, 4.50 ERA, 77 K, 1.57 WHIP, .276 BAA in 98.0 IP over 18 games. He was originally drafted by the White Sox in the second round in 2011. Johnson turned 26 on December 30.

Tatis is a SS\3B who has not yet played in 2016. He originally signed with the White Sox in 2015 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Tatis turned 17 on January 2nd.
