Chris Coghlan was traded by the Oakland Athletics to the Chicago Cubs on June 9, 2016. The Athletics in exchange received Arismendy Alcantara.
Coghlan is an OF\2B\3B who hit .146/.215/.272 with 5 HR, 14 RBI, 14 R, 1 SB in 51 games with the Athletics in 2016. Over eight MLB with the Cubs, Athletics and Marlins he has hit .260/.332/.402 with 51 HR, 213 RBI, 325 R, 46 SB in 718 games. He was originally drafted by the Marlins with the 36th pick of the first round in 2006. Coghlan will be 31 on June 18.
Alcantara is an OF\2B who hit .264/.315/.437 with 5 HR, 21 RBI, 32 R, 21 SB in 53 games at Triple A Iowa in 2016. Over two MLB seasons with the Cubs he hit .194/.252/.342 with 10 HR, 30 RBI, 36 R, 9 SB in 81 games. He originally signed with the Cubs in 2008 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Alcantara will be 25 on October 29.
