Imeldo Diaz traded to Cardinals

Imeldo Diaz was traded by the Boston Red Sox to the St Louis Cardinals on July 2, 2017 along with Stanley Espinal in exchange to international signing bonus pool space. 

Shortstop Diaz hit 5 for 24, .208/.269/.333 with 0 HR, 4 RBI, 4 R, 0 SB in 7 games at Class A Short Season Lowell in 2017. Last season he hit 40 for 171, .234/.263/.269 with 0 HR, 14 RBI, 11 R, 0 SB in 46 games at Rookie Gulf Coast. He originally signed with the Red Sox in 2014 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Diaz turned 19 on November 2nd. 

Third baseman Espinal hit 5 for 27, .185/.241/.259 with 0 HR, 3 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 7 games at Lowell in 2017. Last season he hit 44 for 203, .217/.288/.305 with 2 HR, 20 RBI, 24 R, 2 SB in 53 games at Rookie Gulf Coast. He originally signed with the Red Sox in 2015 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Espinal turned 20 on November 15.
