J.D. Martinez was traded by the Detroit Tigers to the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 18, 2017. The Tigers in exchange received Dawel Lugo, Sergio Alcantara and Jose King.
Oufielder Martinez hit 61 for 200, .305/.388/.630 with 16 HR, 39 RBI, 38 R, 2 SB in 57 games with the Tigers in 2017. Over seven MLB seasons with the Tigers and Astros he has hit .283/.340/.494 with 123 HR, 411 RBI, 344 R, 14 SB in 710 games. He was originally drafted by the Astros in the 20th round in 2009. Martinez will be 30 on August 21.
Third baseman Lugo hit 96 for 341, .282/.325/.428 with 7 HR, 43 RBI, 40 R, 1 SB in 88 games at Double A Jackson in 2017. He originally signed with the Blue Jays in 2011 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic and was traded to the Diamondbacks in 2015. Lugo turned 22 on December 31.
Shortstop Alcantara hit 95 for 340, .279/.344/.362 with 3 HR, 28 RBI, 44 R, 11 SB in 86 games at Class A Advanced Visalia in 2017. He originally signed with the Diamondbacks in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Alcantara turned 21 on July 10.
Shortstop King hit 12 for 46, .261/.333/.348 with 0 HR, 9 RBI, 7 R, 2 SB in 13 games at Rookie Arizona in 2017. He originally signed with the Diamondbacks in 2015 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. King turned 18 on January 16.
