David Phelps was traded by the Miami Marlins to the Seattle Mariners on July 20, 2017. The Marlins in exchange received Brayan Hernandez, Brandon Miller, Pablo Lopez and Lukas Schiraldi.
RHP Phelps was 2-4, 3.45 ERA, 51 K, 1.34 WHIP, .243 BAA in 47.0 IP over 44 games with the Marlins in 2017. Over six MLB seasons with the Marlins and Yankees he was 28-32, 3.90 ERA, 509 K, 1.32 WHIP, .247 BAA, 5 SV in 545.0 IP over 218 games with 64 GS. He was originally drafted by the Yankees in the 14th round in 2008 and traded to the Marlins in 2014. Phelps will be 31 on October 9th.
Outfielder Hernandez had split 2017 between Short Season A Everett and Triple A Tacoma. He hit 26 for 103, .252/.306/.408 with 2 HR, 15 RBI, 9 R, 4 SB in 28 games at Everett and 2 for 5, .400/.400/.400 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 1 SB in 3 games at Tacoma. He originally signed with the Mariners in 2014 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Hernandez will be 20 on September 11,
RHP Miller was 9-4, 3.65 ERA, 94 K, 1.18 WHIP, .254 BAA in 101.0 IP over 18 GS at Class A Clinton in 2017. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the sixth round in 2016. Miller turned 22 on June 16.
RHP Lopez was 5-8, 5.04 ERA, 89 K, 1.26 WHIP, .279 BAA in 100.0 IP over 19 games with 18 GS at Class A Advanced Modesto in 2017. He originally signed with the Mariners in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Lopez turned 21 on March 7th.
RHP Schiraldi was 2-1, 4.58 ERA, 63 K, 1.50 WHIP, .213 BAA, 3 SV in 37.1 IP over 28 games at Modesto in 2017. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the 15th round in 2014. Schiraldi will be 24 on July 25.
