John Ryan Murphy traded to Diamondbacks

John Ryan Murphy was traded by the Minnesota Twins to the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 27, 2017. The Twins in exchange received Gabriel Moya.

Catcher Murphy hit 43 for 194, .222/.298/.330 with 4 HR, 27 RBI, 21 R, 0 SB in 59 games at Triple A Rochester in 2017. Over four MLB seasons with the Twins and Yankees he hit .238/.283/.337 with 5 HR, 27 RBI, 35 R, 0 SB in 141 games. His MLB caught stealing rate was 30%. He was originally drafted by the Yankees in the second round in 2009 and traded to the Twins in 2015. Murphy turned 26 on May 13.

LHP Moya was 4-1, 0.82 ERA, 68 K, 0.78 WHIP,.148 BAA, 17 SV in 43.2 IP over 34 games at Double A Jackson in 2017. He originally signed with the Diamondbacks in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Moya turned 22 on January 9th.
