Melky Cabrera traded to Royals

Melky Cabrera was traded by the Chicago White Sox to the Kansas City Royals on July 30, 2017. The White Sox in exchange received A. J. Puckett and Andre Davis.

Outfielder Cabrera had hit 117 for 397, .295/.336/.436 with 13 HR, 56 RBI, 54 R, 0 SB in 98 games with the White Sox in 2017. Over 13 MLB seasons with the White Sox, Blue Jays, Giants, Royals, Braves and Yankees he hit .286/.337/.418 with 127 HR, 739 RBI, 800 R, 97 SB in 1618 games. He originally signed with the Yankees in 2001 as an amataur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Cabrera will be 33 on August 11. 

RHP Puckett was 9-7, 3.90 ERA, 98 K, 1.41 WHIP, .257 BAA in 108.1 IP over 20 GA at Class A Advanced Wilmington in 2017. He was originally drafted by the Royals in the second round in 2016. Puckett turned 22 on May 27.

LHP Davis was 5-4, 4.83 ERA, 87 K, 1.39 WHIP, .280 BAA in 85.2 IP over 18 GS at Class A Lexington in 2017. He was originally drafted by the Royals in the eighth round in 2015. Davis will be 24 on September 29.
