The rosters have been revealed for the 2017 Futures Game to be played on July 9 at Marlins Park, home of the Miami Marlins. Every Major League team has at least one player on either the US or World roster and some teams have more than one. In this post I'll be going over the pitchers on the US team.
RHP Beau Burrows has split 2017 between Class A Advanced Lakeland and Double A Erie of the Detroit Tigers. He was 4-3, 1.23ERA, 62 K, 0.95 WHIP, .221 BAA in 58.2 IP over 11 GS at Lakeland and 2-2, 6.56 ERA, 20 K, 1.89 WHIP, .330 BAA in 32.1 IP over 5 GS at Erie. He was originally drafted by the Tigers with the 22nd pick of the first round in 2015. Burrows was born in Fort Worth, TX and will be 21 on September 18.
RHP Jon Duplantier has split 2017 between Class A Kane County and Class A Advanced Visalia of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was 6-1, 1.24 ERA, 78 K, 0.83 WHIP, .180 BAA in 72.2 IP over 13 games with 12 GS at Kane County and 0-0, 3.38 ERA, 5 K, 3.00 WHIP, .250 BAA in 2.2 IP in 1 GS at Visalia. He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks in the third round in 2016. Duplantier was born in Newark, DE and will be 22 on July 11.
RHP Jack Flaherty has split 2017 between Double A Springfield and Triple A Memphis of the St Louis Cardinals. He was 7-2, 1.42 ERA, 62 K, 0.92 WHIP, .205 BAA in 63.1 IP over 10 GS at Springfield and 1-1, 4.33 ERA, 31 K, 1.26 WHIP, .231 BAA in 27.0 IP over 5 GS at Memphis. He was originally drafted by the Cardinals with the 34th pick of the first round in 2014. Flaherty was born in Burbank, CA and turned 21 on October 15.
LHP Foster Griffin has split 2017 between Class A Advanced Wilmington and Double A Northwest Arkansas of the Kansas City Royals. He was 4-2, 2.86 ERA, 60 K, 1.11 WHIP, .210 BAA in 56.2 IP over 10 GS at Wilmington and 5-1, 1.93 ERA, 31 K, 1.10 WHIP, .225 BAA in 37.1 IP over 6 GS at Northwest Arkansas. He was originally drafted by the Royals with the 28th pick of the first round in 2014. Griffin was born in Orlando, FL and will be 22 on July 27.
RHP Jimmy Herget has split 2017 between Double A Pensacola and Triple A Louisville of the Cincinnati Reds. He was 1-3, 2.73 ERA, 44 K, 1.15 WHIP, .202 BAA, 16 SV in 29.2 IP over 24 games at Pensacola and 0-0, 2.57 ERA, 10 K, 0.71 WHIP, .167 BAA in 7.0 IP over 6 games at Louisville. He was originally drafted by the Reds in the sixth round in 2015. Herget was born in Tampa, FL and will be 24 on September 9th.
RHP Brent Honeywell has split 2017 between Double A Montgomery and Triple A Durham of the Tampa Bay Rays. He was 1-1, 2.08 ERA, 20 K, 0.62 WHIP, .100 BAA in 13.0 IP over 2 GS at Montgomery and 7-7, 4.91 ERA, 90 K, 1.50 WHIP, .294 BAA in 93.1 IP over 14 GS at Durham. He was originally drafted by the Rays in the secondround in 2014 . Honeywell was born in Carnesville, GA and turned 22 on March 31.
RHP Michael Kopech has pitched at Double A Birmingham of the Chicago White Sox. He was 4-5, 3.72 ERA, 97 K, 1.33 WHIP, .195 BAA in 75.0 IP over 15 G. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox with the 33rd pick of the first round in 2014 and traded to the White Sox in 2016. Kopech was born in Mt Pleasant, TX and turned 21 on April 30.
RHP Triston McKenzie has pitched at Class A Advanced Lynchburg of the Cleveland Indians. He was 6-4, 3.16 ERA, 104 K, 1.08 WHIP, .193 BAA in 82.2 IP over 15 GS. He was originally drafted by the Indians with the 42nd pick of the first round in 2015. McKenzie was born in Brooklyn, NY and will be 20 on August 2nd.
LHP A.J. Puk has split 2017 between Class A Advanced Stockton and Double A Midland of the Oakland Athletics. He was 4-5, 3.69 ERA, 98 K, 1.10 WHIP, .196 BAA in 61.0 IP over 14 games with 11 GS at Stockton and 0-2, 8.59 ERA, 8 K, 1.64 WHIP, .269 BAA in 7.1 IP over 2 GS at Midland. He was originally drafted by the Athletics with the sixth pick of the first round in 2016 . Puk was born in Cedar Rapids, IA and turned 22 on April 25.
LHP Tanner Scott has pitched at Double A Bowie of the Baltimore Orioles. He was 0-0, 1.40 ERA, 57 K, 1.22 WHIP, .172 BAA in 45.0 IP over 15 GS. He was originally drafted by the Orioles in the sixth round in 2014. Scott was born in Mogadore, OH and will be 22 on July 22.
