One Minor 2012 review

During the 2012 season I continued my segment called Two Major One Minor where I tried to spot light two Major League players and one minor league players each week. While I missed a few weeks I did put the spotlight on 16 minor league players in 2012. Now I'm going back and see how each finished their season.

The first player featured on April 17 was outfielder Justin Christian of the Giants. He split 2012 between Triple A Fresno and the Giants. He hit .343/.409/.508 with 7 HR, 35 RBI, 58 R, 12 SB in 72 games at Fresno and hit .125/.197/.143 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 6 R, 2 SB in 34 games with the Giants. He signed with the Cardinals in November.

RHP Trevor Bauer was with Double A Mobile of the Diamondbacks when he was featured on April 24. He split 2012 between Double A Mobile, Triple A Reno and Arizona. He was 7-1 with a 1.68 ERA, 60 K, 1.22 WHIP in 48.1 IP over 8 games at Mobile, was 5-1 with a 2.85 ERA, 97 K, 1.33 WHIP in 82.0 IP over 14 games at Reno and was 1-2 with a 6.06 ERA, 17 K, 1.65 WHIP in 16.1 IP over 4 games at Arizona. He was traded to the Indians in December.

First baseman Nathan Freiman was featured on May 1st while with Double A San Antonio of the Padres. He played 2012 at Double A San Antonio and hit .298/.370/.502 with 24 HR, 105 RBI, 80 R, 0 SB in 137 games. He was selected by the Astros in the 2012 Rule 5 draft.

RHP Tyler Thornburg of the Brewers Double A team Huntsville was featured on May 9th. He split 2012 between Double A Huntsville, Triple A Nashville and the Brewers. He was 8-1 with a 3.00 ERA, 71 K, 1.08 WHIP in 75.0 IP over 13 games at Huntsville, was 2-3 with a 3.58 ERA, 42 K, 1.35 WHIP in 37.2 IP over 8 games at Nashville and was 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA, 20 K, 1.41 WHIP in 22.0 IP over 8 games with the Brewers.

Outfielder Wilkin Ramirez was featured on May 17 shortly after his promotion to Triple A Rochester of the Twins. He split 2012 between Double A New Britain and Triple A Rochester. He hit .388/.412/.816 with 4 HR, 7 RBI, 12 R, 2 SB in 11 games at New Britain and hit .276/.316/.451 with 15 HR, 54 RBI, 39 R, 7 SB in 98 games at Rochester.

RHP Barret Loux of Double A Frisco of the Rangers was featured on May 25. He was 14-1 with a 3.47 ERA, 100 K, 1.27 WHIP in 127.0 IP over 25 games at Frisco. He was traded to the Cubs in November.

Outfielder Bryce Brentz was with Double A Portland of the Red Sox when featured on June 1st. He split 2012 between Double A Portland and Triple A Pawtucket. He hit .296/.355/.478 with 17 HR, 76 RBI, 62 R, 7 SB in 122 games at Portland and hit .118/.167/.118 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 5 games at Pawtucket.

RHP Terry Doyle was the featured player on June 8th while with Triple A Charlotte of the White Sox. He was 6-3 with a 2.83 ERA, 71 K, 0.93 WHIP in 76.1 IP over 12 games with Charlotte and was surprisingly released the next week. He then signed with the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks in Japan and was 1-1 with a 3.55 ERA, 7 K, 1.82 WHIP in 12.2 IP over 3 games.

Second baseman Jeff Kobernus of Double A Harrisburg of the Nationals was featured on June 17. He hit .282/.325/.333 with 1 HR, 19 RBI, 41 R, 42 SB in 82 games. He was selected by the Red Sox in the 2012 Rule 5 draft. He was then traded to the Tigers.

RHP Carter Capps was featured on June 24 while with Double A Jackson of the Mariners. He split 2012 between Double A Jackson, Triple A Tacoma and the Mariner. He was 2-3 with a 1.26 ERA, 72 K, 1.04 WHIP, 19 SV in 50.0 IP over 38 games at Jackson, was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 3 K, 0.00 WHIP in 1.1 IP in 1 game at Tacoma and was 0-0 with a 3.96 ERA, 28 K, 1.44 WHIP in 25.0 IP over 18 games with the Mariners.

Jedd Gyorko is a 2B\3B who was with Triple A Tucson of the Padres when featured on July 8th. He split 2012 between Double A San Antonio and Triple A Tucson. He hit .262/.356/.431 with 6 HR, 17 RBI, 18 R, 1 SB in 34 games at San Antonio and hit .328/.380/.588 with 24 HR, 83 RBI, 62 R, 4 SB in 92 games at Tucson.

Outfielder Oscar Taveras of Double A Springfield of the Cardinals was featured on July 22. He hit .321/.380/.572 with 23 HR, 94 RBI, 83 R, 10 SB in 124 games.

RHP Alex Colome was with Double A Montgomery of the Rays when featured on July 29. He split 2012 between Double A Montgomery and Triple A Durham. He was 8-3 with a 3.48 ERA, 75 K, 1.37 WHIP in 75.0 IP over 14 games at Montgomery and was 0-1 with a 3.24 ERA, 15 K, 1.26 WHIP in 16.2 IP over 3 games at Durham.

Outfielder Zoilo Almonte of Double A Trenton of the Yankees was featured on August 5th. He hit .277/.322/.487 with 21 HR, 70 RBI, 64 R, 15 SB in 106 games.

RHP John Ely was with Triple A Albuquerque of the Dodgers when featured on August 20. He split 2012 between Albuquerque and the Dodgers. He was 14-7 with a 3.20 ERA, 165 K, 1.10 WHIP in 168.2 IP over 27 games at Albuquerque and was 0-2 with a 20.25 ERA, 3 K, 3.75 WHIP in 2.2 IP over 2 games with the Dodgers. He was traded to the Astros in December.

First baseman Darin Ruf of Double A Reading of the Phillies was featured on August 25. He split 2012 between Double A Reading and the Phillies. He hit .317/.408/.620 with 38 HR, 104 RBI, 93 R, 2 SB in 139 games with Reading and hit .333/.351/.727 with 3 HR, 10 RBI, 4 R, 0 SB in 12 games with the Phillies.
