Theodore S Williams was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1966 along with Casey Stengel. Williams was an outfielder with 19 seasons MLB experience playing all with the Boston Red Sox (1939-1942, 1946-1960). Williams missed the 1943-1945 seasons while serving with the United Stated Marine Corps during World War II. For his MLB career he hit .344/.482/.634 with 521 HR, 1839 RBI, 1798 R, 24 SB in 2292 games.
I believe his best three seasons were 1949 when he hit .343/.490/.650 with 43 HR, 159 RBI, 150 R, 1 SB in 155 games, 1942 when he hit .356/.499/.648 with 36 HR, 137 RBI, 141 R, 3 SB in 150 games and 1946 when he hit .342/.497/.667 with 38 HR, 123 RBI, 142 R, 0 SB in 150 games.
Williams was the American League batting champ in 1941 (.406), 1942, 1947 (.343), 1948 (.369), 1957 (.388) and 1958 (.328). He led the AL in doubles in 1948 (44) and 1949 (39). He led the AL in home runs in 1941 (37), 1942, 1947 (32) and 1949. He led the AL in RBI in 1939 (145), 1942, 1947 (114) and 1949. He led the AL in runs in 1940 (134), 1941 (135), 1942, 1946, 1947 (125) and 1949.
He was an All Star 19 times (1940-1942, 1946-1951, 1953-1960). He won the American League Triple Crown winner twice in 1942 and 1947. His career on base percentage is the best in MLB history. Williams was the American League MVP in 1946 and 1949 and was second in AL MVP voting in 1941, 1942, 1947 and 1957.
Williams served as manager for the Washington Senators\Texas Rangers (1969-1972) with a 273-364 record.
