Robert W A Feller was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1962 along with William McKechnie, Jackie Robinson and Edd Roush. Feller was a RHP with 18 seasons MLB experience pitching all with the Cleveland Indians (1936-1941, 1945-1956). He missed the 1942-1944 seasons serving in the United States Navy during World War II. For his MLB career he was 266-162 with a 3.25 ERA, 2581 K, 1.32 WHIP, 21 SV, 279 complete games, 44 shut outs in 3827.0 IP over 570 games.
I believe his best three seasons were 1940 when he was 27-11 with a 2.61 ERA, 261 K, 1.13 WHIP, 4 SV, 31 complete games, 4 shut outs in 320.1 IP over 43 games, 1939 when he was 24-9 with a 2.85 ERA, 246 K, 1.24 WHIP, 1 SV, 24 complete games, 4 shut outs in 296.2 IP over 39 games and 1946 when he was 26-15 with a 2.18 ERA, 348 K, 1.16 WHIP, 4 SV, 36 complete games, 10 shut outs in 371.1 IP over 48 games.
Feller led the American League in wins in 1939, 1940, 1941 (25), 1946, 1947 (20) and 1951 (22). He led the AL in ERA in 1940. He led the AL in strikeouts seven times in 1938 (240), 1939, 1940, 1941 (260), 1946, 1947 (196) and 1948 (164). He led the AL in shut outs in 1940, 1941 (6), 1946 and 1947 (5).
He was an All Star eight times (1938-1941, 1946-1948, 1950). He pitched three no hitters on April 16, 1940 against the Chicago White Sox, April 30, 1946 against the New York Yankees and July 1, 1951 against the Detroit Tigers. Feller won the World Series Championship with the Indians in 1948.
