William M Dickey was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1954 along with Rabbit Maranville and William Terry. Dickey was a catcher with 17 seasons MLB experience playing all with the New York Yankees (1928-1943, 1946). For his MLB career he hit .313/.382/.486 with 202 HR, 1209 RBI, 1969 R, 36 SB in 1789 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1937 when he hit .332/.417/.570 with 29 HR, 133 RBI, 87 R, 3 SB in 140 games, 1936 when he hit .362/.428/.617 with 22 HR, 107 RBI, 99 R, 0 SB in 112 games and 1938 when he hit .313/.412/.568 with 27 HR, 115 RBI, 84 R, 3 SB in 132 games. He threw out 47% of those that attempted to steal on him.
He was an All Star 11 times (1933-1934, 1936-1943, 1946). He was second in AL MVP voting in 1938. Dickey won the World Series Championship with the Yankees in 1928, 1932, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941 and 1943.
He was player\manager in 1946. He was a manager in the minors 1947-1949 when he returned to the Yankees as first base coach and catching instructor. Dickey was a coach on the Yankees teams that won the World Series in 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953 and 1956.
