Burleigh A Grimes was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1964 along with Luke Appling, Red Faber, Miller Huggins, Timothy Keefe, Henry Manush and Monte Ward. Grimes was a RHP with 19 seasons MLB experience pitching with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1916-1917, 1928-1929, 1934), Brooklyn Robins (1918-1926), New York Giants (1927), Boston Braves (1930), St Louis Cardinals (1930-1931, 1933-1934) and New York Yankees (1934). For his MLB career he was 270-212 with a 3.53 ERA, 1512 K, 1.36 WHIP, 18 SV, 314 complete games, 35 shut outs in 4180.0 IP over 616 games.
I believe his best three seasons were 1920 when he was 23-11 with a 2.22 ERA, 131 K, 1.11 WHIP, 2 SV, 25 complete games, 5 shut outs in 303.2 IP over 40 games, 1921 when he was 22-13 with a 2.83 ERA, 136 K, 1.29 WHIP, 30 complete games, 2 shut outs in 302.1 IP over 37 games and 1928 when he was 25-14 with a 2.99 ERA, 97 K, 1.17 WHIP, 3 SV, 28 complete games, 4 shut outs in 330.2 IP over 48 games.
Grimes led the National League in wins in 1921 and 1928. He led the NL in strikeouts in 1921. He led the NL in shut outs in 1928.
Grimes won the World Series Championship with the Cardinals in 1931.
He was manager for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1937-1938) with a 131-171 record.
