John Ely traded to Astros

John Ely was traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Houston Astros on December 19, 2012. In exchange the Dodgers received Rob Rasmussen. 

RHP Ely has three seasons MLB experience pitching all with the Dodgers. He split 2012 between Triple A Albuquerque and Los Angeles. He was 14-7 with a 3.20 ERA, 165 K, 1.10 WHIP in 168.2 IP over 27 games at Albuquerque and was 0-2 with a 20.25 ERA, 3 K, 3.75 WHIP in 2.2 IP over 2 games at Los Angeles. For his MLB career he is 4-13 with a 5.70 ERA, 92 K, 1.51 WHIP in 115.1 IP over 25 games. He was originally drafted by the White Sox in the third round in 2007. Ely turned 26 on May 13.

LHP Rasmussen joined the Astros in July as part of the Carlos Lee deal. He split 2012 between the Marlins Class A Advanced team Jupiter and the Astros Double A team Corpus Christi. He was 4-7 with a 3.90 ERA, 75 K, 1.36 WHIP in 87.2 IP over 16 games at Jupiter and was 4-4 with a 4.80 ERA, 44 K, 1.40 WHIP in 54.1 IP over 11 games at Corpus Christi. He was originally drafted by the Marlins in the second round in 2010. Rasmussen turned 23 on April 2nd.
