Jason Vargas was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the Los Angeles Angels on December 19, 2012. In exchange the Mariners received Kendrys Morales.
LHP Vargas has seven seasons MLB experience pitching with the Mariners, Mets and Marlins. In 2012 he was 14-11 with a 3.85 ERA, 141 K, 1.18 WHIP in 217.1 IP over 33 games. For his MLB career he is 42-50 with a 4.35 ERA, 530 K, 1.31 WHIP in 829.2 IP over 150 games. He was originally drafted by the Marlins in the second round in 2004. Vargas will be 30 on February 2nd.
Morales is a 1B\OF\DH with six seasons MLB experience playing all with the Angels. In 2012 he hit .273/.320/.467 with 22 HR, 73 RBI, 61 R, 0 SB in 134 games. For his MLB career he has hit .281/.331/.491 with 79 HR, 265 RBI, 216 R, 4 SB in 464 games. He originally signed with the Angels as an amateur free agent in 2005 out of Cuba. Morales turned 29 on June 20.
