2011 USA Today High School Baseball All Americans in 2012

I'm going to take a look at how the members of the 2011 USA Today high school baseball All American team did in 2012. It will be interesting how well early success translated to their later baseball careers.

RHP/Infielder Dylan Bundy of Owasso High School in Owasso, OK was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles with the fifth pick of the first round in 2011. He split 2012 between Class A Delmarva, Class A Advanced Frederick, Double A Bowie and the Orioles. He was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 40 K, 0.23 WHIP in 30.0 IP over 8 games at Delmarva, was 6-3 with a 2.84 ERA, 66 K, 1.16 WHIP in 57.0 IP over 12 games at Frederick, was 2-0 with a 3.24 ERA, 13 K, 1.32 WHIP in 16.2 IP over 3 games at Bowie and was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 0 K, 1.20 WHIP in 1.2 IP over 2 games with the Orioles. 

LHP Jordan Montgomery of Sumter High School of Sumter, SC was not drafted out of high school. He enrolled at South Carolina and in 2012 was 6-1 with a 3.62 ERA, 57 K, 1.06 WHIP in 74.2 IP over 15 games.

LHP Henry Owens of Edison High School in Huntington Beach, CA was drafted by the Boston Red Sox with the 36th pick of the first round in 2011. He pitched 2012 at Class A Greenville. He was 12-5 with a 4.87 ERA, 130 K, 1.45 WHIP in 101.2 IP over 23 games.

Infielder/RHP Archie Bradley of Broken Arrow High School in Broken Arrow, OK was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the seventh pick of the first round in 2011. He played 2012 at Class A South Bend. He was 12-6 with a 3.84 ERA, 152 K, 1.26 WHIP in 136.0 IP over 27 games.

Catcher\RHP Kevin Cron of Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, AZ was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the third round in 2011 but did not sign. He enrolled at Texas Christian University and in 2012 hit .338/.383/.503 with 6 HR, 34 RBI, 20 R, 0 SB in 43 games.

Catcher Blake Swihart of V Sue Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, NM was drafted by the Boston Red Sox with the 27th pick of the first round in 2011. He played 2012 at Class A Greenville. He hit .262/.307/.395 with 7 HR, 53 RBI, 44 R, 6 SB in 92 games.

Infielder Francisco Lindor of Monteverde Academy in Montverde, FL was drafted by the Cleveland Indians with the eighth pick of the first round in 2011. He played 2012 at Class A Lake County. He hit .257/.352/.355 with 6 HR, 42 RBI, 83 R, 27 SB in 122 games.


Infielder Trevor Mitsui of Shorewood High School in Shoreline, WA was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 12th round in 2011 but did not sign. He enrolled at Washington and in 2012 hit .308/.372/.376 with 1 HR, 14 RBI, 19 R, 2 SB in 44 games.

Outfielder Josh Bell of Dallas Jesuit High School in Dallas, TX was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second round in 2011. He played 2012 at Class A West Virginia. He hit .274/.288/.403 with 1 HR, 11 RBI, 6 R, 1 SB in 15 games.

Outfielder Bubba Starling of Gardner Edgerton High School in Gardner, KS was drafted by the Kansas City Royals with th efifth pick of the first round in 2011. He played 2012 at Rookie Burlington. He hit .275/.371/.485 with 10 HR, 33 RBI, 35 R, 10 SB in 53 games.
