I'm going to take a look at how the members of the 2011 Baseball America high school baseball All American team did in 2012. It will be interesting how well early success translated to their later baseball careers.
RHP Hudson Boyd of Bishop Verot High SChool in Fort Myers, FL was drafted by the Minnesota Twins with the 55th pick of the first round in 2011. He played 2012 at Rookie Elizabethton. He was 2-5 with a 2.95 ERA, 36 K, 1.48 WHIP in 58.0 IP over 13 games.
RHP Archie Bradley of Broken Arrow High School in Broken Arrow, OK was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the seventh pick of the first round in 2011. He played 2012 at Class A South Bend. He was 12-6 with a 3.84 ERA, 152 K, 1.26 WHIP in 136.0 IP over 27 games.
RHP Dylan Bundy of Owasso High School in Owasso, OK was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles with the fifth pick of the first round in 2011. He split 2012 between Class A Delmarva, Class A Advanced Frederick, Double A Bowie and the Orioles. He was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 40 K, 0.23 WHIP in 30.0 IP over 8 games at Delmarva, was 6-3 with a 2.84 ERA, 66 K, 1.16 WHIP in 57.0 IP over 12 games at Frederick, was 2-0 with a 3.24 ERA, 13 K, 1.32 WHIP in 16.2 IP over 3 games at Bowie and was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 0 K, 1.20 WHIP in 1.2 IP over 2 games with the Orioles.
RHP Dillon Maples of Pinecrest High School in Southen Pines, NC was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 14th round in 2011. He pitched 2012 at Rookie Arizona. He was 0-1 with a 4.35 ERA, 12 K, 1.55 WHIP in 10.1 IP over 6 games.
RHP Kyle Smith of Santaluces Community High School in Lantana, FL was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the fourth round in 2011. He split 2012 between Rookie Idaho Falls and Class A Kane County. He was 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA, 11 K, 0.80 WHIP in 5.0 IP in 1 games at Idaho Falls and was 4-3 with a 2.94 ERA, 87 K, 1.22 WHIP in 67.1 IP over 13 games at Kane County.
Catcher Tomas Nido of Orangewood Christian High School in Maitland, FL was a junior and was drafted by the New York Mets in the eighth round in 2012. He played 2012 at Rookie Kingsport. He hit .242/.307/.339 with 2 HR, 15 RBI, 15 R, 1 SB in 38 games.
Infielder Javier Baez of Arlington Country Day School in Jacksonville, FL was drafted by the Chicago Cubs with the ninth pick of the first round in 2011. He split 2012 between Class A Peoria and Class A Advanced Daytona. He hit .333/.383/.596 with 12 HR, 33 RBI, 41 R, 20 SB in 57 games at Peoria and hit .188/.244/.400 with 4 HR, 13 RBI, 9 R, 4 SB in 23 games at Daytona.
Infielder Dante Bichette Jr of Orangewood Christian High School in Maitland, FL was drafted by the New York Yankees with the 51st pick of the first round in 2011. He played 2012 at Class A Charleston. He hit .248/.322/.331 with 3 HR, 46 RBI, 67 R, 3 SB in 122 games.
Infielder Trevor Mitsui of Shorewood High School in Shoreline, WA was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 12th round in 2011 but did not sign. He enrolled at Washington and in 2012 hit .308/.372/.376 with 1 HR, 14 RBI, 19 R, 2 SB in 44 games.
Infielder David Thompson of Westminster Christian School in Miami, FL was a junior and was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 38th round in 2012 but did not sign. He enrolled at Miami and is expected to start as a freshman.
Outfielder Josh Bell of Dallas Jesuit High School in Dallas, TX was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second round in 2011. He played 2012 at Class A West Virginia. He hit .274/.288/.403 with 1 HR, 11 RBI, 6 R, 1 SB in 15 games.
Outfielder Austin Cousino of Dublin Coffman High School in Dublin, OH was not drafted out of high school. He enrolled at Kentucky and in 2012 hit .319/.408/.515 with 9 HR, 41 RBI, 61 R, 15 SB in 62 games.
Outfielder Larry Greene of Berrien County High School in Nashville, GA was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies with the 39th pick of the first round in 2011. He played 2012 at Class A Williamsport. He hit .272/.373/.381 with 2 HR, 26 RBI, 36 R, 1 SB in 70 games.
DH Kevin Cron of Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, AZ was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the third round in 2011 but did not sign. He enrolled at Texas Christian University and in 2012 hit .338/.383/.503 with 6 HR, 34 RBI, 20 R, 0 SB in 43 games.
Utility\RHP Jake Thompson of Rockwell-Heath High School of Rockwell, TX was a junior and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the second round in 2012. He pitched 2012 at Rookie Gulf Coast. He was 1-2 with a 1.91 ERA, 31 K, 0.85 WHIP in 28.1 IP over 7 games.
