I'm going to take a look at how the members of the 2012 USA Today high school baseball All American team did in 2012. It will be interesting how well early success translated to their later baseball careers.
RHP\Outfielder Byron Buxton of Appling County High School in Baxley, GA was drafted by the Minnesota Twins with the second pick of the first round in 2012. He split 2012 between Rookie Gulf Coast and Rookie Elizabethton. He hit .216/.324/.466 with 4 HR, 14 RBI, 17 R, 4 SB in 27 games at Gulf Coast and hit .286/.368/.429 with 1 HR, 6 RBI, 16 R, 7 SB in 21 games at Elizabethton.
RHP\Outfielder Courtney Hawkins of Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, TX was drafted by the Chicago White Sox with the 13th pick of the first round in 2012. He split 2012 between Rookie Bristol, Class A Kannapolis and Class A Advanced Winston-Salem. He hit .272/.314/.401 with 3 HR, 16 RBI, 25 R, 8 SB in 38 games at Bristol, hit .308/.352/.631 with 4 HR, 15 RBI, 11 R, 3 SB in 16 games at Kannapolis and hit .294/.294/.588 with 1 HR, 2 RBI, 3 R, 0 SB in 5 games at Winston-Salem.
RHP James Kaprielian of Beckham High School in Irvine, CA was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 40th round in 2012 but did not sign. He enrolled to play at UCLA.
LHP Rob Kaminsky of Saint Joseph Regional High School of Montvale, NJ was only a junior in 2012.
RHP\Infielder Lance McCullers Jr of Jesuit High School in Tampa, FL was drafted by the Houston Astros with the 41st pick of the first round in 2012. He split 2012 between Rookie Gulf Coast and Rookie Greeneville. He was 0-1 with a 1.64 ERA, 12 K, 1.09 WHIP in 11.0 IP over 4 games at Gulf Coast and was 0-3 with a 4.80 ERA, 17 K, 1.33 WHIP in 15.0 IP over 4 games at Greeneville.
RHP\Outfielder Ty Moore of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, CA was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 25th round in 2012 but did not sign. He enrolled to play at UCLA.
RHP\Infielder Wyatt Mathisen of Calallen High School in Corpus Christi, TX was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second round in 2012. He played 2012 at Rookie Gulf Coast. He hit .295/.388/.374 with 1 HR, 15 RBI, 24 R, 10 SB in 45 games.
Infielder Gavin Cecchini of Barbe High School in Lake Charles, LA was drafted by the New York Mets with the 12th pick of the first round in 2012. He split 2012 between Rookie Kingsport and Class A Brooklyn. He hit .246/.311/.330 with 1 HR, 22 RBI, 21 R, 5 SB in 53 games at Kingsport and hit .000/.167/.000 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 5 games at Brooklyn.
