I'm going to take a look at how the members of the 2010 Baseball America college baseball All American team did in 2012. It will be interesting how well early success translated to their later baseball careers.
RHP Seth Blair of Arizona State was drafted by the St Louis Cardinals with the 46th pick of the first round in 2010. He split 2012 between Rookie Gulf Coast and Class A Advanced Palm Beach. He was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 1 K, 1.00 WHIP in 3.0 IP over 2 games at Gulf Coast and was 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA, 12 K, 1.92 WHIP in 16.2 IP over 5 games at Palm Beach. He missed part of the season due to an injured finger.
RHP Barret Loux of Texas A&M was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the sixth pick of the first round in 2010. He failed his physical and was not offered a contract and later signed with the Texas Rangers as a free agent. He pitched 2012 at Double A Frisco. He was 14-1 with a 3.47 ERA, 100 K, 1.27 WHIP in 127.0 IP over 25 games. He was traded to the Cubs after the season.
LHP Drew Pomeranz of Ole Miss was drafted by the Cleveland Indians with the fifth pick of the first round in 2010. He was traded to the Rockies in 2011. He split 2012 between Double A Tulsa, Triple A Colorado Springs and the Rockies. He was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 4 K, 1.25 WHIP in 4.0 IP in 1 game at Tulsa, was 4-4 with a 2.51 ERA, 46 K, 1.54 WHIP in 46.2 IP over 9 games at Colorado Springs and was 2-9 with a 4.93 ERA, 83 K, 1.48 WHIP in 96.2 IP over 22 games with the Rockies.
RHP Chance Ruffin of Texas was drafted by the Detroit Tigers with the 48th pick of the first round in 2010. He was traded to the Mariners in 2011. He pitched 2012 at Triple A Tacoma.. He was 0-5 with a 5.99 ERA, 54 K, 1.56 WHIP, 1 SV in 70.2 IP over 50 games.
LHP Chris Sale of Florida Gulf Coast University was drafted by the Chicago White Sox with the 13th pick of the first round in 2010. He pitched 2012 with the White Sox. He was 17-8 with a 3.05 ERA, 192 K, 1.13 WHIP in 192.0 IP over 30 games.
Catcher Yasmani Grandal of Miami was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds with the 12th pick of the first round in 2010. He was traded to the Padres after the 2011 season. He split 2012 between Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore, Triple A Tucson and the Padres. He hit .000/.125/.000 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 2 games at Lake Elsinore, hit .335/.443/.521 with 6 HR, 35 RBI, 40 R, 0 SB in 56 games at Tucson and hit .297/.394/.469 with 8 HR, 36 RBI, 28 R, 0 SB in 60 games with the Padres.
First baseman Hunter Morris of Auburn was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the fourth round in 2010. He played 2012 at Double A Huntsville. He hit .303/.357/.563 with 28 HR, 113 RBI, 77 R, 2 SB in 136 games.
Second baseman Zack MacPhee of Arizona State was a sophomore in 2010 and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 13th round in 2011. He played 2012 at Class A Lake County. He hit .222/.319/.297 with 2 HR, 26 RBI, 27 R, 2 SB in 75 games.
Third Baseman Anthony Rendon of Rice was a sophomore in 2010 and was drafted by the Washington Nationals with the sixth pick of the first round in 2011. He split 2012 between Rookie Gulf Coast, Class A Auburn, Class A Advanced Potomac and Double A Harrisburg. Shortstop Christian Colon of Cal State Fullerton was drafted by the Kansas City Royals with the fourth pick of the first round in 2010. He split 2012 between the Arizona Rookie team, Double A Northwest Arkansas and Triple A Omaha. Outfielder Michael Choice of the University of Texas-Arlington and was drafted by the Oakland Athletics with the tenth pick of the first round in 2010. He played 2012 at Double A Midland. He hit .287/.356/.423 with 10 HR, 58 RBI, 59 R, 5 SB in 91 games.
Outfielder Taylor Dugas of Alabama was a sophomore in 2010 and was drafted by the New York Yankees in the eighth round in 2012. He played 2012 at Class A Staten Island. He hit .306/.465/.373 with 1 HR, 15 RBI, 38 R, 5 SB in 59 games.
DH Chris Duffy of Central Florida was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 26th round in 2010. He split 2012 between Class A Lakewood and Class A Advanced Clearwater. Utility Mike McGee of Florida State was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 41st round in 2010, returned to school for his senior season and was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 15th round in 2011. He played 2012 at Class A Advanced High Desert. He hit .276/.352/.467 with 17 HR, 58 RBI, 86 R, 11 SB in 118 games.
