2007 Baseball America High School All Americans in 2012
I'm going to take a look at how the members of the 2007 Baseball America high school baseball All American team did in 2012. It will be interesting how well early success translated to their later baseball careers.
RHP Tim Alderson of Horizon High School in Scottsdale, AZ was drafted by the San Francisco Giants with the 22nd pick of the first round in 2007. He was traded to the Pirates in 2009. He split 2012 between Double A Altoona and Triple A Indianapolis. He was 5-4 with a 4.25 ERA, 62 K, 1.36 WHIP, 3 SV in 84.2 IP over 26 games at Altoona and was 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA, 4 K, 1.75 WHIP in 4.0 IP over 2 games at Indianapolis.
RHP Blake Beavan of Irving High School in Irving, TX was drafted by the Texas Rangers with the 17th pick of the first round in 2007. He was traded to the Mariners in 2010. He split 2012 between Triple A Tacoma and the Mariners. He was 4-0 with a 2.61 ERA, 15 K, 1.26 WHIP in 38.0 IP over 6 games at Tacoma and was 11-11 with a 4.43 ERA, 67 K, 1.26 WHIP in 152.1 IP over 26 games with the Mariners.
LHP Madison Bumgarner of South Caldwell High School in Hudson, NC was drafted by the San Francisco Giants with the 10th pick of the first round in 2007. He pitched the 2012 season with the Giants. He was 16-11 with a 3.37 ERA, 191 ERA, 1.11 WHIP in 208.1 IP over 32 games.
RHP Jarrod Parker of Norwell High School of Ossain, IN was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the ninth pick of the first round in 2007. He was traded to the Athletics after the 2011 season. He split 2012 between Triple A Sacramento and the Athletics. He was 1-0 with a 2.18 ERA, 21 K, 1.35 WHIP in 20.2 IP over 4 games at Sacramento and was 13-8 with a 3.47 ERA, 140 K, 1.26 WHIP in 181.1 IP over 29 games with the Athletics.
RHP Rick Porcello of Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange, NJ was drafted by the Detroit Tigers with the 27th pick of the first round in 2007. He pitched 2012 with the Tigers. He was 10-12 with a 4.59 ERA, 107 K, 1.53 WHIP in 176.1 IP over 31 games.
Catcher Yasmani Grandal of Miami Springs High School in Miami, FL was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 27th round in 2007 but opted to play for Miami. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds with the 12th pick of the first round in 2010. He was traded to the Padres after the 2011 season. He split 2012 between Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore, Triple A Tucson and the Padres. He hit .000/.125/.000 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 2 games at Lake Elsinore, hit .335/.443/.521 with 6 HR, 35 RBI, 40 R, 0 SB in 56 games at Tucson and hit .297/.394/.469 with 8 HR, 36 RBI, 28 R, 0 SB in 60 games with the Padres.
Infielder Kevin Ahrens 16th out of Memorial High School in Houston, TX was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 16th pick of the first round in 2007. He played 2012 at Class A Advanced Dunedin. He hit .240/.338/.345 with 8 HR, 53 RBI, 59 R, 1 SB in 120 games.
Infielder Matt Dominguez of Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth, CA was drafted by the Florida Marlins with the 12th pick of the first round in 2007. He split 2012 between the Marlins and Astros organizations after he was traded in July. Before the trade he played with the Marlins Triple A team New Orleans and hit .234/.291/.357 with 7 HR, 46 RBI, 27 R, 0 SB in 78 games. After the trade he split time with Triple A Oklahoma City and the Astros and hit .298/.347/.398 with 2 HR, 23 RBI, 21 R, 0 SB in 45 games at Oklahoma City and hit .284/.310/.477 with 5 HR, 16 RBI, 14 R, 0 SB in 31 games with the Astros.
Infielder Mike Moustakas of Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth, CA was drafted by the Kansas City Royals with the second pick of the first round in 2007. He played for the Royals in 2012. He hit .242/.296/.412 with 20 HR, 73 RBI, 69 R, 5 SB in 149 games.
Infielder Josh Vitters of Cypress High School in Anaheim, CA was drafted by the Chicago Cubs with the third pick of the first round in 2007. He split 2012 between Triple A Iowa and the Cubs. He hit .304/.356/.513 with 17 HR, 68 RBI, 54 R, 6 SB in 110 games at Iowa and hit .121/.193/.202 with 2 HR, 5 RBI, 7 R, 2 SB in 36 games with the Cubs.
Outfielder Wendell Fairley of George County High School in Lucedale, MS was drafted by the San Francisco Giants with the 29th pick of the first round in 2007. He split 2012 between Rookie Arizona and Double A Richmond. He hit .192/.236/.308 with 0 HR, 7 RBI, 7 R, 1 SB in 13 games at Arizona and hit .220/.306/.266 with 0 HR, 9 RBI, 6 R, 1 SB in 47 games at Richmond.
Outfielder Jason Heyward of Henry County High School in McDonough, GA was drafted by the Atlanta Braves with the 14th pick of the first round in 2007. He played 2012 with the Braves. He hit .269/.335/.479 with 27 HR, 82 RBI, 93 R, 21 SB in 158 games.
Outfielder Ben Revere of Lexington Catholic High School in Lexington, KY was drafted by the Minnesota Twins with the 28th pick of the first round in 2007. He split 2012 between Triple A Rochester and the Twins. He hit .330/.360/.340 with 0 HR, 6 RBI, 9 R, 6 SB in 23 games at Rochester and hit .294/.333/.342 with 0 HR, 32 RBI, 70 R, 40 SB in 124 games with the Twins.
Utility/RHP Michael Main of DeLand High School in DeLand, FL was drafted by the Texas Rangers with the 24th pick of the first round in 2007. He was traded to the Giants in 2010. He switched position to the outfield and split 2012 between Rookie Gulf Coast, Class A Jamestown, and Class A Advanced Jupiter. He hit .340/.392/.426 with 0 HR, 7 RBI, 10 R, 1 SB in 11 games at Gulf Coast, hit .276/.339/.374 with 2 HR, 20 RBI, 18 R, 5 SB in 41 games at Jamestown and hit .200/.333/.200 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 4 games at Jupiter.
