2012 Where are they now 2009 MLB draft top 10

The 2012 season is behind us and I'm checking how the top 10 players of the 2009 draft did this season. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.

The first player drafted in 2009 was RHP Stephen Strasburg by the Washington Nationals out of San Diego State. He pitched 2012 for the Nationals. He was 15-6 with a 3.16 ERA, 197 K, 1.15 WHIP in 159.1 IP over 28 games.

The Seattle Mariners drafted Dustin Ackley second out of North Carolina. He played 2012 with the Mariners. He hit .226/.294/.328 with 12 HR, 50 RBI, 84 R, 13 SB in 153 games.

The San Diego Padres drafted outfielder Donavan Tate third out of Cartersville High School in Cartersville, GA. He split the 2012 between Class A Fort Wayne and Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore. The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted catcher Tony Sanchez fourth out of Boston College. He split 2012 between Double A Altoona and Triple A Indianapolis. He hit .277/.370/.390 with 0 HR, 17 RBI, 22 R, 1 SB in 40 games at Altoona and hit .233/.316/.408 with 8 HR, 26 RBI, 21 R, 0 SB in 62 games at Indianapolis.
