2012 Where are they now 2007 MLB draft top 10

The 2012 season is behind us and I'm checking how the top 10 players of the 2007 draft did this season. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.

The first player drafted in 2007 was LHP David Price by the Tampa Bay Rays out of Vanderbilt. He pitched the 2012 season with the Rays. He was 20-5 with a 2.56 ERA, 205 K, 1.10 WHIP in 211.0 IP over 31 games. He won the 2012 Cy Young.

The Kansas City Royals drafted shortstop Mike Moustakas second out of Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth, CA. He played for the Royals in 2012. He hit .242/.296/.412 with 20 HR, 73 RBI, 69 R, 5 SB in 149 games.

The Chicago Cubs drafted third baseman Josh Vitters third out of Cypress High School in Cypress, CA. He split 2012 between Triple A Iowa and the Cubs.  He hit .304/.356/.513 with 17 HR, 68 RBI, 54 R, 6 SB in 110 games at Iowa and hit .121/.193/.202 with 2 HR, 5 RBI, 7 R, 2 SB in 36 games with the Cubs.

The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted LHP Daniel Moskos fourth out of Clemson. He split 2012 between the Pirates Triple A team Indianapolis and the White Sox Triple A team Charlotte after the White Sox claimed him off waivers in July. He was 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA, 11 K, 1.50 WHIP in 14.0 IP over 14 games at Indianapolis and was 1-1 with a 4.43 ERA, 21 K, 1.97 WHIP, 2 SV in 20.1 IP over 16 games at Charlotte

The Baltimore Orioles drafted catcher Matt Wieters fifth out of Georgia Tech. He played the 2012 season with the Orioles. He hit .249/.329/.435 with 23 HR, 83 RBI, 67 R, 3 SB in 144 games.

The Washington Nationals drafted LHP Ross Detwiler sixth out of Missouri State. He pitched 2012 with the Nationals. He was 10-8 with a 3.40 ERA, 105 K, 1.22 WHIP in 164.1 IP over 33 games.

The Milwaukee Brewers drafted outfielder Matt LaPorta seventh out of Florida. He was traded to the Cleveland Indians in 2008 and split the 2012 season between Triple A Columbus and the Indians. He hit .264/.350/.472 with 19 HR, 62 RBI, 56 R, 0 SB in 101 games at Columbus and hit .241/.267/.328 with 1 HR, 5 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 22 with the Indians.

The Colorado Rockies drafted RHP Casey Weathers eighth out of Vanderbilt. He pitched 2012 at Double A Tennessee. He was 4-2 with a 6.62 ERA, 29 K, 2.29 WHIP in 34.0 IP over 31 games.

The Arizona Diamondbacks drafted RHP Jarrod Parker ninth out of Norwell High School in Ossian, IN. He was traded to the Athletics after the 2011 season. He split 2012 between Triple A Sacramento and the Athletics. He was 1-0 with a 2.18 ERA, 21 K, 1.35 WHIP in 20.2 IP over 4 games at Sacramento and was 13-8 with a 3.47 ERA, 140 K, 1.26 WHIP in 181.1 IP over 29 games with the Athletics.

The San Francisco Giants drafted LHP Madison Bumgarner tenth out of South Caldwell High School in Hudson, NC. He pitched the 2012 season with the Giants. He was 16-11 with a 3.37 ERA, 191 ERA, 1.11 WHIP in 208.1 IP over 32 games.
