2012 Where are they now 2008 MLB draft picks 31 to 40

The 2012 season is behind us and I'm checking how picks 31 to 40 of the 2008 draft did this season. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.

The Minnesota Twins drafted RHP Steven "Shooter" Hunt 31st out of Tulane. He was selected by the Cardinals in the Triple A Phase of the 2011 Rule 5 draft. He retired from baseball in June 2012.

The Milwaukee Brewers drafted RHP Jacob Odorizzi 32nd out of Highland High School in Illinois. He was traded to the Royals in December 2010. He split 2012 between Double A Northwest Arkansas, Triple A Omaha and the Royals. He was 4-2 with a 3.32 ERA, 47 K, 0.97 WHIP in 38.0 IP over 7 games at Northwest Arkansas, was 11-3 with a 2.93 ERA, 88 K, 1.35 WHIP in 107.1 IP over 19 games at Omaha and was 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA, 4 K, 1.64 WHIP in 7.1 IP over 2 games with the Royals. He was traded to the Rays in December.

The New York Mets drafted RHP Bradley Holt 33rd out of UNC Wilmington. He split 2012 between Double A Binghamton and Triple A Buffalo. He was 2-4 with a 3.40 ERA, 42 K, 1.49 WHIP, 1 SV in 47.2 IP over 39 games at Binghamton and was 0-0 with a 10.12 ERA, 3 K, 2.81 WHIP in 5.1 IP over 6 games at Buffalo.

The Philadelphia Phillies drafted outfielder Zachary Collier 34th out of Chino Hills High School in Chino Hills, CA. He played 2012 at Class A Advanced Clearwater. He hit .269/.333/.399 with 6 HR, 32 RBI, 39 R, 11 SB in 78 games.

The Milwaukee Brewers drafted LHP Evan Frederickson 35th out of University of San Francisco. He was released by the Brewers before the 2011 season.

The Kansas City Royals drafted LHP Michael Montgomery 36th out of Hart High School in Newhall, CA. He split 2012 between Double A Northwest Arkansas and Triple A Omaha. He was 2-6 with a 6.67 ERA, 44 K, 1.55 WHIP in 58.0 IP over 10 games at Northwest Arkansas and was 3-6 with a 5.69 ERA, 67 K, 1.67 WHIP in 91.2 IP over 17 games at Omaha. He was traded to the Rays in December.

The San Francisco Giants drafted third baseman Conor Gillaspie 37th out of Wichita State. He split 2012 between Triple A Fresno and the Giants. He hit .281/.345/.441 with 14 HR, 49 RBI, 60 R, 0 SB in 108 games at Fresno and hit .150/.150/.200 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 6 games with the Giants.

The Houston Astros drafted RHP Jordan Lyles 38th out of Hartsville High School in Hartsville, SC. He split 2012 between Triple A Oklahoma City and the Astros. He was 5-0 with a 3.54 ERA, 33 K, 1.20 WHIP in 40.2 IP over 7 games at Oklahoma City and was 5-12 with a 5.09 ERA, 99 K, 1.42 WHIP in 141.1 IP over 25 games with the Astros.

The St Louis Cardinals drafted RHP Michael Lance Lynn 39th out of Ole Miss. He pitched 2012 with the Cardinals. He was 18-7 with a 3.78 ERA, 180 K, 1.32 WHIP in 176.0 IP over 35 games with the Cardinals.

The Atlanta Braves drafted LHP Brett DeVall 40th out of Niceville High School in Florida. He was released by the Braves in April 2011 after numerous elbow injuries.
