2012 Where are they now 2009 MLB draft picks 33 to 40

The 2012 season is behind us and I'm checking how picks 33 to 40 of the 2009 draft did this season. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.

The Seattle Mariners drafted catcher Steven Baron 33rd out of John A. Ferguson School in Miami, FL. He played 2012 at Class A Clinton. He hit .241/.280/.378 with 4 HR, 30 RBI, 29 R, 10 SB in 64 games.

The Colorado Rockies drafted LHP Rex Brothers 34th out of Lipscomb University. He split 2012 between Triple A Colorado Springs and the Rockies. He was 0-0 with a 1.69 ERA, 13 K, 1.12 WHIP, 1 SV in 5.1 IP over 4 games at Colorado Springs and was 8-2 with a 3.86 ERA, 83 K, 1.48 WHIP in 67.2 IP over 75 games with the Rockies.

The Arizona Diamondbacks drafted third baseman Matthew Davidson 35th out of Yucaipa High School in Yucaipa, CA. He played 2012 at Double A Mobile. He hit .261/.367/.469 with 23 HR, 76 RBI, 81 R, 3 SB in 135 games.

The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted LHP Aaron Miller 36th out of Baylor. He pitched 2012 at Double A Chattanooga. He was 6-6 with a 4.45 ERA, 110 K, 1.55 WHIP in 121.1 IP over 25 games.

The Toronto Blue Jays drafted LHP James Paxton 37th out of Kentucky. He tried to return to Kentucky for his senior season but left the team due to issues with the NCAA. He was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the fourth round in 2010. He pitched 2012 at Double A Jackson. He was 9-4 with a 3.05 ERA, 110 K, 1.41 WHIP in 106.1 IP over 21 games.

The Chicago White Sox drafted catcher Joshua Phegley 38th out of Indiana. He played 2012 at Triple A Charlotte. He hit .266/.306/.373 with 6 HR, 48 RBI, 40 R, 3 SB in 102 games.

The Milwaukee Brewers drafted outfielder Kentrail Davis 39th out of Tennessee. He played 2012 at Double A Huntsville. He hit .274/.357/.404 with 7 HR, 41 RBI, 55 R, 19 SB in 122 games.

The Los Angeles Angels drafted LHP Tyler Skaggs 40th out of Santa Monica High School in Santa Monica, CA. He was traded to the Diamondbacks in 2010. He split 2012 between Double A Mobile, Triple A Reno and the Diamondbacks. He was 5-4 with a 2.84 ERA, 71 K, 1.21 WHIP in 69.2 IP over 13 games at Mobile, was 4-2 with a 2.91 ERA, 45 K, 1.23 WHIP in 52.2 IP over 9 games at Reno and was 1-3 with a 5.83 ERA, 21 K, 1.47 WHIP in 29.1 IP over 6 games with the Diamondbacks.
