Omar Infante traded to Tigers

Omar Infante was traded by the Miami Marlins to the Detroit Tigers on July 23, 2012 along with Anibel Sanchez and a draft pick. In exchange the Marlins received Jacob Turner, Brian Flynn, Rob Brantly and a draft pick.


Infante is a second baseman in his 11th MLB season playing with the Marlins, Braves and Tigers. In 2012 he  was hitting .287/.312/.442 with 8 HR, 33 RBI, 42 R, 10 SB in 85 games with Miami. For his MLB career he has hit .276/.318/.397 with 60 HR, 350 RBI, 423 R, 57 SB in 1027 games. He originally signed with the Tigers as an amateur free agent in 1999 out of Venezuela. Infante will be 31 on December 26.


RHP Sanchez had pitched his entire 7 year MLB career with the Marlins. In 2012 he was 5-7 with a 3.94 ERA, 110 K, 1.26 WHIP in 121.0 IP over 19 games with Miami. For his MLB career he is 44-45 with a 3.75 ERA, 676 K, 1.35 WHIP in 794.1 IP over 133 games. He originally signed with the Red Sox as an amateur free agent in 2001 out of Venezuela. Sanchez turned 28 on February 27.


RHP Turner has split 2012 between Class A Advanced Lakeland, Triple A Toledo and the Tigers. He was 1-2 with a 1.66 ERA, 17 K, 1.13 WHIP in 21.2 IP over 4 games at Lakeland, was 4-2 with a 3.16 ERA, 40 K, 1.22 WHIP in 62.2 IP over 10 games with Toledo and was 1-1 with an 8.03 ERA, 7 K, 1.95 WHIP in 12.1 IP over 3 games with Detroit. He also had a brief time with the Tigers in 2011 and his MLB record is now 1-2 with a 8.28 ERA, 15 K, 1.80 WHIP in 25.0 IP over 6 games. He was originally drafted by the Tigers with the ninth pick of the first round in 2009. Turner turned 21 on May 21.


LHP Flynn has split 2012 between Class A Advanced Lakeland and Double A Erie. He was 8-4 with a 3.71 ERA, 84 K, 1.42 WHIP in 102.0 IP over 18 games at Lakeland and was 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA, 3 K, 2.00 WHIP in 5.0 IP in one game at Erie. He was originally drafted by the Tigers in the seventh round in 2011. Flynn turned 22 on April 19.


Brantly is a catcher who has split 2012 between Double A Erie and Triple A Toledo. He hit .311/.359/.461 with 3 HR, 24 RBI, 16 R, 0 SB in 46 games at Erie and hit .254/.295/.285 with 0 HR, 6 RBI, 11 R, 0 SB in 36 games at Toledo. He was originally drafted by the Tigers in the third round in 2010. Brantly turned 23 on July 14.
