Ichiro Suzuki traded to Yankees

Ichiro Suzuki was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the New York Yankees on July 23, 2012. In exchange the Mariners receive D J Mitchell and Danny Farquhar.


Suzuki is an outfielder who had played his entire 12 year MLB career with the Mariners. In 2012 he was hitting .261/.288/.353 with 4 HR, 28 RBI, 49 R and 15 SB in 95 games. For his career he has hit .322/.366/.418 with 99 HR, 633 RBI, 1176 R and 438 SB in 1844 games. His contract was originally purchased in 2000 from the Orix Blue Wave in Japan. Suzuki will be 39 on October 22.


RHP Mitchell has split 2012 between Triple A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and the Yankees. He was 6-4 with a 5.04 ERA, 72 K, 1.33 WHIP in 85.2 IP over 15 games at Triple A and was 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA, 2 K, 2.14 WHIP in 4.2 IP over 4 games with the Yankees. He was originally drafted by the Yankees in the 10th round in 2008. Mitchell turned 25 on May 13.


RHP Farquhar is joining his fourth organization in 2012 with his trade to the Mariners. He started 2012 with the Toronto Blue Jays with Double A New Hampshire where he was 0-1 with a 2.97 ERA, 33 K, 1.26 WHIP in 30.1 IP over 20 games. Then he was selected by the Oakland Athletics off wavers on June 9 and with Triple A Sacramento was 1-2 with a 10.13 ERA, 6 K, 2.00 WHIP in 8.0 IP over 5 games. The Yankees selected him off waivers on June 26 and he split time with Double A Trenton where he was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 14 K, 0.18 WHIP in 11.0 IP over 6 games and then was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 1 K, 0.00 WHIP in 2.0 IP in one game with Triple A Scranton/Wilkes Barre. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 10th round in 2008. Farquhar turned 25 on February 17.
