The final baseball All Star games of 2012 took place this week including the MLB All Star game on Tuesday.
The Futures Game started it off on Sunday with the US crushing the World 17-5. Third baseman Nick Castellanos of the Erie SeaWolves earned the MVP. On the season Castellanos hit .405/.461/.553 with 3 HR, 32 RBI, 37 R and 3 SB after 55 games with Class A Advanced Lakeland and is hitting .307/.311/.482 with 4 HR, 15 RBI, 13 R and 1 SB in 27 games with Double A Erie. Castellanos was originally drafted by the Tigers with the 44th pick of the first round in 2010.
The MLB All Star game on Tuesday with the National League dominating the American League 8-0. Outfielder Melky Cabrera of the San Francisco Giants earned the MVP. On the season Cabrera is hitting .353/.391/.519 with 8 HR, 44 RBI, 55 R and 10 SB in 83 games. Cabrera originally signed with the Yankees as an amateur free agent in 2001 out of the Dominican Republic.
On Wednesday in the Triple A All Star game the Pacific Coast League won 3-0 over the International League. Outfielder Wil Myers of the Omaha Storm Chasers earned the MVP. On the season Myers hit .343/.414/.731 with 13 HR, 30 RBI, 32 R and 4 SB after 35 games with Double A Northwest Arkansas and is hitting .315/.395/.636 with 14 HR, 42 RBI, 40 R and 1 SB in 48 games with Omaha. Myers was originally drafted by the Royals in the third round in 2009.
Also Wednesday the Eastern League All Star game was played with the Eastern Division edging the Western Division 5-4. First baseman Eric Campbell of the Binghamton Mets earned the MVP. On the season Campbell is hitting .328/.432/.487 with 6 HR, 37 RBI, 33 R and 7 SB in 69 games. Campbell was originally drafted by the Mets in the eighth round in 2008.
