Ryan Roberts traded to Rays

Ryan Roberts was traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Tampa Bay Rays on July 24, 2012. In exchange the Diamondbacks receive Tyler Bortnick.


Roberts is a 3B\2B\OF in his seventh MLB season playing for the Diamondbacks, Rangers and Blue Jays. In 2012 he was hitting .250/.306/.357 with 6 HR, 34 RBI, 28 R, 6 SB in 83 games with Arizona. For his MLB career he has hit .250/.330/.398 with 35 HR, 134 RBI, 166 R, 31 SB in 390 games. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 18th round in 2003. Robert will be 32 on September 19.


Bortnick is a second baseman who was playing with the Rays Double A team in Montgomery. In 2012 he was hitting .253/.352/.385 with 4 HR, 48 RBI, 46 R, 23 SB in 95 games with Montgomery. He was originally drafted by the Rays in the 16th round in 2009. Bortnick turned 25 on July 3rd.
