Justin Ruggiano traded to Marlins

Justin Ruggiano was traded by the Houston Astros to the Miami Marlins on May 26, 2012. In exchange the Astros received minor league player Jobduan Morales. 


Ruggiano had previously played for the Rays and is his fourth MLB season. Before the trade he was with the Astros Triple A team Oklahoma City where he hit .325/.409/.581 with 5 HR, 29 RBI, 21 R and 5 SB in 39 games. With the Marlins he has hit .388/.459/.741 with 6 HR, 17 RBI, 15 R and 6 SB in 33 games. He first showed 20/20 ability in Triple A at Durham in 2007 when he hit .309/.386/.502 with 20 HR, 73 RBI, 78 R and 26 SB in 127 games which led to a short seven game call up with the Rays. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the 25th round in 2004. Ruggiano turned 30 on April 12.


Morales is a catcher who played in 2011 with the Marlins Class A short season team Jamestown and Class A Greensboro. He Hit .272/.385/.450 with 4 HR, 23 RBI, 31 R  and 0 SB in 52 games at Jamestown and hit .333/.400/.333 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R and 0 SB in 3 games at Greensboro. He is currently playing with the Astros Class A short season team Tri-City and is hitting .242/.338/.424 with 3 HR, 16 RBI, 17 R and 1 SB in 19 games. He was originally drafted by the Marlins in the ninth round in 2009. Morales turned 21 on June 7th.
