Francisco Liriano traded to White Sox

Francisco Liriano was traded by the Minnesota Twins to the Chicago White Sox on July 28, 2012. In exchange the Twins received Eduardo Escobar and Pedro Hernandez.


LHP Liriano is in his seventh MLB season all with the Twins. In 2012 he was 3-10 with a 5.31 ERA, 109 K, 1.44 WHIP in 100.0 IP over 22 games with Minnesota. For his MLB career he is 50-52 with a 4.33 ERA, 788 K, 1.34 WHIP in 783.1 IP over 156 games. He originally signed with the Giants as an amateur free agent in 2000. Liriano will be 29 on October 26.


Escobar is a 3B\SS\2B who was in his second season with the White Sox. In 2012 he was hitting .207/.281/.276 with 0 HR, 3 RBI, 14 R, 2 SB in 36 games with Chicago. He was 2 for 7 while appearing in 9 games with the White Sox in 2011. He originally signed with the White Sox as an amateur free agent in 2006 out of Venezuela. Escobar turned 23 on January 5th.


LHP Hernandez has split 2012 between the White Sox Double A team in Birmingham and their Triple A team in Charlotte. He was 7-2 with a 2.75 ERA, 37 K, 1.25 WHIP in 68.2 IP over 12 games with Birmingham and was 1-0 with a 3.71 ERA, 17 K, 1.23 WHIP in 17.0 IP over 3 games with Charlotte. He was originally signed by the Padres as an amateur free agent in 2009 out of Venezuela. Hernandez turned 23 on April 12.
