George Kottaras traded to Athletics

George Kottaras was traded by the Milwaukee Brewers to the Oakland Athletics on July 29, 2012. In exchange the Brewers received Fautino De Los Santos.


Kottaras is a catcher in his fifth MLB season playing with the Brewers and Red Sox. In 2012 he was hitting .209/.409/.360 with 3 HR, 12 RBI, 10 R, 0 SB in 58 games with Milwaukee. Fo rhis MLB career he has hit .221/.326/.402 with 18 HR, 65 RBI, 65 R, 2 SB in 222 games. He was originally drafted by the Padres in the 20th round in 2002. Kottaras turned 29 on May 16.


RHP De Los Santos is in his second MLB season with the Athletics. He had split 2012 between the Athletics Triple A team in Sacramento and the Athletics. He was 1-3 with a 7.25 ERA, 43 K, 1.81 WHIP in 36.0 IP over 28 games with Sacramento and was 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA, 3 K, 3.33 WHIP in 3.0 IP over 6 games with Oakland. For his MLB career he is 3-2 with a 4.21 ERA, 46 K, 1.49 WHIP in 36.1 IP over 40 games. He originally signed with the White Sox as an amateur free agent in 2005 out of the Dominican Republic. De Los Santos turned 26 on February 15.
