2010 Baseball America High School All Americans in 2012

I'm going to take a look at how the members of the 2010 Baseball America high school baseball All American team did in 2012. It will be interesting how well early success translated to their later baseball careers.

RHP Dylan Covey of Marantha High School in Pasadena, CA was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 14th pick of the first round in 2010 but did not sign. He enrolled at the University of San Diego and in 2012 was 6-3 with a 3.32 ERA, 50 K, 1.44 WHIP in 81.1 IP over 17 games.

LHP Philip Pfeifer of Farragut High School in Knoxville, TN was a junior and was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 44th round in 2011 but did not sign. He enrolled at Vanderbilt and in 2012 was 0-1 with a 3.24 ERA, 8 K, 1.44 WHIP in 16.2 IP over 11 games.

RHP Jameson Taillon of The Woodlands High School in the Woodlands, TX was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the second pick of the first round in 2010. He split 2012 between Class A Advanced Bradenton and Double A Altoona. He was 6-8 with a 3.82 ERA, 98 K, 1.17 WHIP in 125.0 IP over 23 games at Bradenton and was 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA, 18 K, 0.71 WHIP in 17.0 IP over 3 games at Altoona.

RHP A. J Vanegas of Red Wood Christian High School in San Lorenzo, CA was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the seventh round in 2010 but did not sign. He enrolled at Stanford and in 2012 was 4-0 with a 2.62 ERA, 53 K, 1.42 WHIP in 65.1 IP over 21 games.

RHP Karsten Whitson of Chipley High School in Chipley, FL was drafted by the San Diego Padres with the ninth pick of the first round in 2010 but did not sign. He enrolled at Florida and in 2012 was 4-0 with a 3.51 ERA, 20 K, 1.65 WHIP in 33.1 IP over 14 games.

Catcher Ethan Bennett of Farragut High School in Knoxville, TN was not drafted out of high school. He enrolled at Tennessee and in 2012 hit .188/.298/.348 with 4 HR, 13 RBI, 10 R, 2 SB in 45 games.

Infielder Sean Coyle of Georgetown Academy in Fort Washington, PA was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the third round in 2010. He played 2012 at Class A Advanced Salem. He hit .249/.316/.391 with 9 HR, 63 RBI, 60 R, 16 SB in 116 games.

Infielder Nick Delmonico of Farragut High School in Knoxville, TN was a junior and was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the sixth round in 2011. He played 2012 at Class A Delmarva. He hit .249/.351/.411 with 11 HR, 54 RBI, 49 R, 8 SB in 95 games.

Infielder Christopher Hawkins of North Gwinnett High School in Sugar Hill, GA was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the third round in 2010. He played 2012 at Class A Lansing. He hit .269/.331/.332 with 2 HR, 43 RBI, 67 R, 11 SB in 123 games.

Infielder Manny Machado of Brito Miami Private School in Miami, FL was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles with the third pick of the first round in 2010.  He split 2012 between Double A Bowie and the Orioles. He hit .266/.352/.438 with 11 HR, 59 RBI, 60 R, 13 SB in 109 games at Bowie and hit .262/.294/.445 with 7 HR, 26 RBI, 24 R, 2 SB in 51 games with the Orioles.

Outfielder Josh Sale of Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle, WA was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays with the 17th pick of the first round in 2010. He played 2012 at Class A Bowling Green. He hit .264/.391/.464 with 10 HR, 44 RBI, 35 R, 7 SB in 74 games.

Outfielder Austin Wilson of Harvard-Westlake High School in Los Angeles, CA was drafted by the St Louis Cardinals in the 12th round in 2010 but did not sign. He enrolled at Stanford and in 2012 hit .285/.389/.493 with 10 HR, 54 RBI, 56 R, 7 SB in 59 games.

Outfielder Ryan Wilson of Owasso High School in Owasso, OK was not drafted out of high school. He enrolled at Seminole State College were he played two seasons and will play 2013 at University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

DH Kris Bryant of Bonanza High School in Las Vegas, NV was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 18th round in 2010 but did not sign. He enrolled at the University of San Diego and in 2012 hit .366/.483/.671 with 14 HR, 57 RBI, 59 R, 9 SB in 57 games.

Utility/RHP Kaleb Cowart of Cook High School in Adel, GA was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels with the 18th pick of the first round in 2010. He split 2012 between Class A Cedar Rapids and Class A Advanced Inland Empire. He hit .293/.348/.479 with 9 HR, 54 RBI, 42 R, 9 SB in 66 games at Cedar Rapids and hit .259/.366/.426 with 7 HR, 49 RBI, 48 R, 5 SB in 69 games at Inland Empire.
