Two Major One Minor 042214

Here is the third Two Major One Minor segment of 2014. This is my fourth year of doing this series where I feature two Major League players and one minor league player each week. This week I am featuring Scooter Gennett, Brock Holt and James Ramsey.

In a season with the pitchers starting with the upper hand and many hitter failing to hit their weight little Scooter Gennett of the Milwaukee Brewers is practically hitting two of himself. Gennett is picking up where he left off last season and is showing he can flat out hit. Since rising to the Majors the second baseman has outperformed the numbers he put up in the minors. He had hit .309 in 2010 at Class A Wisconsin and .300 in 2011 at Class A Advanced Brevard County but he has cranked it up a notch. Splitting 2013 between Triple A Nashville and the Brewers he hit .280/.327/.371 with 3 HR, 22 RBI, 44 R, 10 SB in 79 games at Nashville and hit .324/.356/.479 with 6 HR, 21 RBI, 29 R, 2 SB in 69 games with the Brewers. Out of the gates this season he has hit .321/.357/.415 with 0 HR, 6 RBI, 3 R, 1 SB in 19 games. If he settles into the second spot in the order his run production should pick up with Ryan Braun hitting behind him. He was originally drafted by the Brewers in the 16th round in 2009. Gennett will be 24 on May 1st.

Holt is a 3B\2B that the Boston Red Sox brought up to take advantage of his hot bat and he has been hitting a sumo wrestler's weight. At Triple A Pawtucket he had hit .380/.446/.600 with 1 HR, 3 RBI, 11 R, 4 SB in 12 games. Since the call up he has hit .389/.400/.500 with 0 HR, 3 RBI, 3 R, 1 SB in 5 games. He did have a some previous time in the MLB last season with the Red Sox and in 2012 with the Pirates. For his MLB career he has hit .268/.316/.326 with 0 HR, 17 RBI, 18 R, 2 SB in 54 games. If he keeps hitting he may stay up as Victorino and Middlebrooks make their way back from the DL. He was originally drafted by the Pirates in the ninth round in 2009. Holt will be 26 on June 11.

James Ramsey is one of those players people like to put under the microscope to find flaws but all he does is play ball and keep performing. He was an All-American outfielder at Florida State but going into the 2012 MLB draft I heard and read people knocking him. Yet the St Louis Cardinals saw those All-American characteristics and drafted him with the 23rd pick of the first round. This season he has started off swinging the bat well for Double A Springfield hitting .359/.446/.672 with 5 HR, 14 RBI, 14 R, 1 SB in 17 games. He spent one game at Triple A Memphis last season and if he keeps hitting like this he should spend many more games there this season. Ramsey turned 24 on December 19.
